Thailand: doctors find in stomach of man 31 condoms of heroin

Pascal Maurice Pittet, 53, was expected to be charged with drug trafficking after being discharged from a hospital in the beach resort town of Koh Samui, said police Maj. Wacharawong Praiphan. He could face life imprisonment if convicted.

Pittet, who owns a beach bar on Samui island, had returned to Thailand a few weeks ago from Myanmar and was scheduled to fly to Switzerland on Monday, said police Col. Chaiyut Nilawong. He is believed to have brought the drugs in from Myanmar, the world's second-largest producer of heroin after Afghanistan.

He had been experiencing intense stomach pains for a week, and checked into the hospital over the weekend after the pain became unbearable, said Dulyakit Witthayachanyaphong, the doctor who treated him, the AP reports.
