BANGKOK: -- As the flooding situation in several northern provinces is easing, flooding in the South, particularly in Krabi, remains a concern as high and strong waves continue to rock the beach and cause damages to houses near the shores.

Local authorities said Krabi province is still facing a worrisome flooding situation, due to the higher sea level and strong winds.

Residents’ homes on the coast were now damaged, as the high sea level has caused the houses to be under 30-50 centimetres of water.

The strong winds have damaged a concrete road between Baan Kor Klang and Klong Kam Pang and broken the neck of a bridge of a port, rendering it unusable. Authorities have been tying off the boats in the area to keep them from floating away.

But flood situation in the North is easing, as water levels in many areas are receding back to their normal levels, though damages were leftover.

Soldiers were dispatched to inspect Moo 10 of Baan Hua Fai Village, which have been flooded yesterday and found that landslides remained to block off 20 locations, each landslide covers more than 100 metres of the road leading into Chai Prakarn district.

The army also found that a bridge has been damaged, leaving over 90 families or around 300 lives cut off from the outside.

In Chiang Rai province, the inundations there have now receded, leaving only a few low lying areas in the province under water.

Residents in the province have started to clean up their houses and dredged out flood channels in case of more floods.

But Thai Meteorological Department Monday issued warning of heavy rains across the country over the next few days due to the southwesterly wind covering the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.
