I have a Chinese friend who is looking to pass the academic IELTS test with a high score so that she can study for a masters degree abroad. She really wants to focus on her writing and grammar skills.

Currently, she is taking beginner to intermediate level courses at NES. I believe it's mostly a conversational course as I've seen her study materials, and it doesn't strike me as serious or professional.

I have heard of a few schools for English: AUA, YMCA, and British Council. Does anyone have experiences they can share or an opinion what school is the best?

I have read that British Council courses are overpriced, pretentious, and lacking. I have read that YMCA has great beginner courses, but I do not know if the courses are focused on the IELTS. AUA is a widely recommended option, but I'd like to hear about experiences and IELTS test scores.

Please recommend other schools as well. Cost is important, and the ability to get an ED visa is important as well.

Her conversation and listening skills are pretty good in my opinion. Her grammar and writing is well...poor. :D

Thanks for any input!
