Immigration in upped the document pile for retirement extension.. again?

Featured Replies

Just went for my annual Retirement extension at Phuket Immigration today and now again (not the 3-4 previous years) they want copy of a Thai Bank ATM card or similar. Fine for me, except the backside with the 3 digit security number and my signature.

Allow me to add that as usual I had with me the pensions slip sent directly from my home country to Thailand each month. The slip is printed on a special kind of paper with all my personal information and name on and to make a false one would be near impossible. When I do my annual extension the pensions slip is in advance sent or brought to my Embassy in Bangkok which do a translation and a currency exchange on a separate form. Without the pension slip no document from the Embassy. This is so what I bring to the Thai Immigration.

What is the general policy regarding the above in Thailand and what do other TV members do when asked about a copy of ATM/Credit Card at Immigration?

Thanks

Okay, edited to: Has Immigration generally upped the documents / paperwork needed for retirement extension ?

Do Tv members on retirement extension, when asked about copy of ATM /Credit Card at Immigration, copy both sides of the card and hand it over ?

If you do a search here on the forum you will find a similar question asked about 1 week ago or so.

Apparently Phuket immigration requires this on occasion, others do not.

I did a search with "copy of ATM" in this forum and only this topic came up as a result. It is not always as easy to do a search as we think.

A replacement ATM card issued by your Bank would contain a new 3-digit code and make the one you submit to them inoperable.

You could keep this old card for future occasions to prove ID until its expiration date.

Just a possible option.

If it were me .., I would gut up to finance a trip to Bkk and go to an Immigration office known for being on the up and up ... if that is possible ... And file from there,,, you may see a whole different set of questions

Yes Phuket immigration requires in most cases a bankbook and/or atm card even you use the pension route. (No seasoning or limit required)

This is to check that you are using the Thai banking system for your money. ( the reason, who knows?)

Only a copy of the atm front side is required, never the backside with the signature and security code.

Why do you keep this security number on your card ? When I receive a new card, I sign it, memorise the security number and erase it from the card. If you don't do that its too easy for a bad guy to order on the internet if you lost it, have it stolen.... or photocopied.

Just did the same search you did, just left out the 'of'. Took me 2 seconds, this thread came up, http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/741371-extra-documents-were-requested-for-non-immi-o-marriage-in-phuket-office/?p=8079529&hl=%2Bcopy+%2Batm

To be sure, just did the same search with 'copy of atm' 'search this forum' and again the same thread came up, along with about 20 others.

Sadly it's no longer possible, we're now required to renew/extend in the province that we reside in, they clamped down on that about three years ago as I recall.

I have MasterCard with 300K credit which just expired.......but its from Europe.sad.pngsmile.png

Anyway down here cards seems to be...yes just cards...when on the opposite the banks in Europe on a weekly basis update and inform their customers through internet banking about, card fraud, online fraud, to old Java installed, don't take out money there , look for the padlock on the payment page etc...... when in Thailand my wife probably could use my credit cards as long as she can write a name!

That is not totally correct as I live in Khampaeng Phet province and 5 years ago I had to use Mae Sot in Tak province but now I have to use Nakhon Sawan. Sadly there is no Immigration office in Khampaeng Phet.

Understandable if there isn't one in the province that you live in I suppose.

I guess you are closer to Nakhon Sawan than Phitsanulok?

So if you're a retiree living in Phuket you're totally screwed then at annual extension of stay time if (like me) you have a Thai bank account but no ATM card.

Updated Bank book will probably do or use your imagination regarding ATM card...........

Thank guys. I was thinking if anything could be wrong in Chiangmai for my husband's visa extension, we would fly to Bangkok. As now I know I just will take my chance.

Nakhon Sawan is 125 km and Phitsanulok is about 180 km. Mae Sot is about 200 km.
