Here, associations mean dues, which means money collected, which means under protection money. Taxi's, tuktuks, jetskis, beach chairs, massage, umbrellas and whatever else. A few different people are getting slices of these "associations" and most of us know who these people are in their various locations, and most of them have been in the news lately.

"Associations" also means collusion, so all vendors can set the same overinflated price.

A bit daft. Each lease is for approx 100m. So you will have 20 - 30 people in the Association.

It's more to keep "unwanteds" out. La Cosa Nostra (Our Thing).
