No doubt you'll be expressing your RIP's and condolences when Thaksin does die? Oh, sorry, you're only sympathetic to the right kind of families

Those you hate, you wish death on. Classy.

Yes fabby, I would, and maybe I'd join the legions celebrating. And yes, I am sympathetic to the right kind of families.

Given that Thaksin has done very little that is right, I have no problem with my feeling or lack thereof for the man.

It was you that made the presumptive last statement. I don't hate Thaksin anymore than I hate rats., Classy eh?

So sorry, you don't hate the man, just wish to see him dead and celebrate the fact. As I said, Classy.

Well, I have seen enough people on here in the last week wanting Putin dead so why not this megalomaniac as well?

Oh fabby, it must be so difficult for you at the moment, are you pining for Takky and Poo? you must feel like a member without portfolio now PTP have been relegated to the sidelines (which is good because they should all be behind bars!). Never mind eh!

As this birthday celebration was in a public place and it involved putting up large pictures etc I am sure it was cut short due to it constituting a political gathering (as it was being attended by members of a red political group, hardly surprising!)

Singthong Buachum, a legal adviser to Pheu Thai Party, said that Thaksin's admirers and red shirts who work at the department store held a merit-making ceremony and put up a big picture of Thaksin and former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to celebrate Thaksin's birthday yesterday.

I never quite understood the mechanics of merit making. Are the red shirts making merit for themselves or for Thaksin? If they make merit for themselves, why do they need Thaksin's b-day occasion? If the merit is for Thaksin, how will he get it since he is not there? Can it be transferred, or does he have to pick it up? Can he send someone to pick up the merit? Once the merit gets to France, will there be custom duties?

Any enlightenment from experienced merit makers is appreciated.

Thats what was in the 15 suitcases Yingluck took. A lot of merit.

The anti Shinawatra faction here on Thai Visa is truly amazing. Does not matter what the military junta does in the way of suspending constitutional rights, laws, etc. as long as it is against Thaksin and family or his supporters. It is already apparent that the military government is getting ready to put the military in the legislative body soon. Seems to me like they really intend to suspend constitutional rights until all the populace is following the new order and then maybe they will allow an election in which those of like mind will be guaranteed victory. So much for democracy in Thailand.

All those supporting the junta are doing so not for a better democracy in Thailand, but because they somehow feel that the old order is so corrupt it cannot correct itself over time and because their hated for the Shinawatras and their supporters is so great that any method of bringing them down is justifiable. Well, Thailand has had another military coup and another bunch of generals is running the show. It amazes me that no one realizes that the generals are just a corrupt as the politicians. They may keep a lower profile but the wealth generated by these individuals is enormous. Whether outright kickbacks or through connections they seems to amass wealth way beyond their salaries in the military. You supporters have just traded one set of corrupt politicians for corrupt military generals who now want to place themselves in the national assembly. That's real democracy.

I choose benevolent dictatorship every time over a kleptocracy.

Incredible 65 and not a gray hair on his head.

Actually loving Thaksin is very strange. To support Thaksin is evil, just like the man himself.

One birthday too many for the despotic power crazed megalomaniac.

The one thing to be remembered concerning Thaksin is that ''Some have greatness thrust upon them, others have it thrust up them.'' Certainly the latter part of that expression epitomize the Shinwatra clans actions regarding Thailand and its peoples.

One wonders whether 'Oak'' may try to creep in via the ''back door'' and impose his ideas on Thailand and its peoples in the future.?

I see it reported elsewhere that PT is whining about double standards because the army gave Chuan Leekpai flowers for his birthday and wouldnt even let them celebrate Thaksins birthday let alone give him a present.

Could the difference possibly be that Chuan isn't a convicted criminal on the run in another country and has no criminal charges waiting to be heard against him ?

Ok, he is a criminal and needs to return to Thailand to serve his time....sure. But lets not wish an untimely end for him of un-natural causes. It would only serve to make him a martyr and solidify support for others of his ilk who mean no good for a better Thailand.

Like the 3 wishes the genie offers you. Be careful what you wish for!

Party Over Now?

time to wind up this topic for another year..

Pinthongta admires a man who has split the country and families; caused hundreds of people to be killed and injured because of his desire for money and power; and who caused massive corruption over 10+ years; caused the country to lose hundreds of billions of Baht; etc. I hope they build a statue to him in his prison courtyard.

"The anti Shinawatra faction here on Thai Visa is truly amazing."

Which isn't to say that they're not largely justified, is it ? Perhaps the degree of feeling is due, to their all being coupist fascist right-wing loons, as some Red-leaning posters occasionally suggest, or perhaps its just that many posters saw what the Thaksinista-governments did during their decade in-power, and formed their own opinions, which they're not afraid to reveal ?

To suggest that PTP/Yingluck were somehow going to bring in "a better democracy for Thailand", I would suggest that you might look at what they actually did, instead ? wink.png

Ramming through the amnesty-bill, at four in the morning, to pardon themselves & their supporters & Thaksin's mis-deeds over the previous decade, really says it all about their priorities or respect for democratic consensus. Their true colours were revealed IMO, when their first act upon gaining power, was to cut the corporate tax-rate from 30% to 23%. That wasn't done to help the poor, was it ?

It says something, that many farangs posting here see a military coup, and fifteen months (or so) of military rule, as being a better alternative than continuation of the mess which former-PM Yingluck & her party & family had delivered. I personally hope that the outcome will be positive, in the longer-term, for Thailand and the Thai people. I think that what Thaksin/TRT helped set rolling, over a decade ago, is part of an inevitable change which can't be stopped, but can still be hi-jacked by a new set of hi-so crooks in sheep's clothing.

And I'm also happy that the shootings/bombings have generally ended, and that some of the culprits (on whatever side) are now being caught, and delivered to justice. Something that Chalerm/Tarit & CAPO/DSI notably failed to achieve. Perhaps they were directing their efforts in the wrong direction, or were just ineffective, it's a matter of opinion.

Meanwhile Thaksin & his family gather in Paris, to celebrate his 65th birthday, a notable landmark in one man's life. The military permitted his family-members to attend. He will no doubt continue to pursue his business-interests, but they need not encompass doing rice-deals on the country's behalf, or ordering pumps from Korea to combat floods, or planning the country's political & economic future, unless he feels nobody else has the right/ability to do so ? In which case many farangs on ThaiVisa may feel that he's wrong, and say so.

He now has his sister to occupy one of the villa's bedrooms for the next few decades as she won't be back either.

However, if she does return, then her lawyers are surely just deceiving her so that they can earn more money from her by making her think that she'll be declared innocent one day. They will try to drag out the court cases for years and years while earning a fortune themselves.

"One wonders whether 'Oak'' may try to creep in via the ''back door''

You aren't suggesting Oak is a back door kind of guy are you?

Pinthongta Shinawatra, Thaksin's daughter, posted pictures and messages on her personal Instagram, saying she did not have the chance to spend time with her father on his birthday yesterday and had not met him for many months.

Sad, could he or Mum not have stumped-up, for an extra ticket ? blink.png

attachicon.gifPin.jpgHe's cute, so is Pinthongta, the bride.

Maybe she is smarter. And she don't want to see her criminal family members.

That's the problem with paranoia. It has no boundaries and cannot be contained.

She wished him a strong body and strong mind forever and for people who love and wait for him, including his family.

I trust the people who love and wait for him are long-suffering and resigned to a long wait.

He will never be back and personally I don't give a damn if he never gets back.

It is a little over the top tho if people don't have the freedom to wish someone happy birthday.

And a Democrat party chief gets flowers from the Junta for his birthday.

Pictures and stories?

Really? Well that's not really fair.

One is a convicted criminal fugitive on the run with 15 serious outstanding cases to be tried. One isn't see the difference?

+1.

And there you have it - the General's fairness for all society. Ban one birthday party, but send flowers to the other side.

Seeing people wishing t death made me think.

Not that I do not understand, I am close to it myself.

May be his death would be a heavenly present to the country.

But why not wish him enlightenment and paying for everything he has done (with money and otherwise) and make it undone? Would be difficult however with the killing caused by him

Happy birthday Mr Criminal.

Thailand never had a democracy; its a constitutional monarchy How many times does that need reiterated to Khao san road tourists?

Just remember one thing, all the bad things that have happened to the Shinawatra regime over the years, the political parties kicked out, politicians charged, convicted and even locked up, Thaksin fleeing the country like a craven rat, the PTP crashing and burning, etc etc etc, all these things happened without the influence of the "anti Shinawatra faction here on Thai Visa".

It was all brought on by Thaksin himself, his rotten to the core family, the despicable politicians in his employ like that drunken bum /thug/criminal Chalerm, and the paid red terrorists he uses to cause havoc around the country.

......................."their hated for the Shinawatras and their supporters is so great that any method of bringing them down is justifiable."...........................

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when things are so bad that some would support ther Devil himself if it meant getting rid of the Shinawatra regime from Thai politics.

..................."Whether outright kickbacks or through connections they seems to amass wealth way beyond their salaries in the military.".............................

A moot point. In the past three years the PTP has proved without a doubt, that anything dodgy the Military can do, we can do better.

But as far as keeping the peace, preventing innocent protesters being murdered, and paying farmers the monies owed to them, well the Military is all over the PTP like a cheap suit. biggrin.png

thaiguzzi, carefully read the post before yours, #47 by Baerboxer, and try to understand the difference between the two people concerned.

He made her a Billionairess in her own name.

He made her the richest stockholder in Thailand.

So gratitude is expected, but she still made the list :
