BANGKOK, 29 July 2014 (NNT) – Suvarnabhumi Airport is inviting passengers to take photos with an interactive photo shooting screen under the theme of ASEAN, while Chinese tourists are exempted from a visa application fee during the next 90 days.

Raweewan Natarakavesana, the Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, has launched an “Amazing Smile of AEC” campaign by setting up an interactive photo display of 10 ASEAN countries’ national symbols. The campaign is aimed to impress all passengers who are going to be visiting Thailand until November 21st 2014.

Ms. Raweewan added that even though Thailand is at its low season, the number of passengers entering the airport have increased to about 100,000 people per day, most of them being Chinese tourists.

Thailand has expressed its thanks to the Chinese for greatly supporting the Thai tourism industry by exempting visa fees for Chinese tourists during the three months August to October 2014.

Another variation on the arrivals theme and this time it's up again despite being low season. Only last week the Director at Swampy said overall arrivals for the year would be down yet we get up again in low season so what will be said come high season ? rolleyes.gif

Accuracy isn't this country's strong suit.

"Thailand has expressed its thanks to the Chinese for greatly supporting the Thai tourism industry..."

Not to mention supporting increased emergency room revenue generated by the numerous road crashes they have caused.w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif

Could somebody please check my math. They say 100,000 passengers per day. Lets assume there are 24 hrs/day (even in Thai time) which is equivalent to 4,167 people per hour. Now lets assume there are 60 minutes in an hour (even in Thai time) then that comes out to 69 passengers per minute. hmmmmmm my gut check tells me someone is telling "non-truths"whistling.gif

edited for removing double word

Well : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World's_busiest_airports_by_passenger_traffic gives a figure of 16,247,477 passengers from Jan 1ST to end April. That makes 137,690 passengers per day, or 95 passengers per minute! .... wink.png

Edited for incorrect figure.

The link in post #7 will not present. Google world's largest airports by passenger count. Suva is 18th. However,on second thoughts... I believe the figure given included both ingoing and outgoing - I'm not sure. So divide the figure in 2, for arguments sake - still offers 48 passengers per minute.

Im maybe wrong but this is clutching at straws to redeem in someway this Countrys reputation to the world .

Hmm.. Isn`t this breaking the international law about discrimination?

(That Thailand have signed).

Article 5 (Positive action)

With a view to ensuring full equality in practice, the principle of equal treatment shall not prevent
any Member State from maintaining or adopting specific measures to prevent or compensate for
advantages linked to racial or ethnic origin.

"Raweewan Natarakavesana, the Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, has launched an “Amazing Smile of AEC” campaign"

so she is obviously trying to impress foreigners with her excellence in natural English expressions again....

THey should perhaps devote more time to stamping out the duty free scams that focus on King Power and the police, they have no idea the bad publicity they get from these alone, let alone the taxi scammers, jet ski scammers etc etc. When they can clean up and clear out the scammers then they will move forward on the tourist trade, until then once bitten twice shy, why do so many tourists not want to come back?
