Foreign bike-rider killed in Sriracha Forest area close to Pattaya

PATTAYA: -- On Sunday afternoon Police and medics were called to a forest in the Bang Phra area of Sriracha District to deal with a fatal road accident which saw a foreigner killed.

The unknown foreign man was driving a Red Honda CBR and was seen moments earlier by Khun Somporn aged 42, a Police Volunteer, who was driving home when he saw the fast-moving bike approach from behind.

The foreign driver overtook and seemed to miss a turning and drove into the forest area without reducing his speed. Seconds later a loud noise was heard by Khun Somporn who went to investigate and found the bike had slammed into trees. The foreign driver was lying motionless on the ground and was later confirmed to have died.

Police suspect the foreigner may reside in Pattaya and was unfamiliar with the road layout which ultimately led to his death.

Or maybe Khun Somporn was upset he was getting passed and then forced the rider into the trees. IT GOES DEEPER THAN WE THINK PEOPLE!!!

 

Ok, now that that accusation is out of the way, let's continue.

RIP for the rider and family who has to hear the news.

Just to add to Smedly's comment about helmets and various impact types, above; and also in the light of the Thai police statement from the south that 'not wearing a crash helmet was a leading cause of accidents'.

 

Helmets, whether worn or not, do not cause accidents. End of!

They mitigate against certain types of injuries, in the event of an accident.

 

Cause and effect. Some people ought to learn better how to distinguish between them. They won't protect you from being an idiot. Ever.

why would anyone be driving at high speed on a dirt road on any sort of motorbike and I regard anything over 80kph as high speed - the most expensive helmets in the world are tested for impacts up to 30kph, they are not designed to protect from a horizontal impact on anything vertical or solid. I'm posting this because a lot of people think wearing gear makes them indestructible - it definitely doesn't - hit something hard and solid at over 50kph wearing full protective gear and you will not survive and below that speed you might be lucky

Yep going fast on a dirt road is not smart, protection or no protection. But I don't see much protection on him. Even his helmet seemed to come loose. That should not happen if you fasten it correctly.

 

Anyway driving fast on a dirt road that you don't know or even if you know it is not smart. I drive bikes too and go fast enough when the conditions allow it.

Helmets don't cause or prevent accidents - should that need to be said?

however speed is not really the issue when it comes to protection with a helmet.   Helmets are seldom effective against DIRECT blows at any speed. 

The vast majority of people who die in motorcycle accidents from head injuries without a hat, die from GLANCING blows - the damage is often not eve detectable to the untrained eye, but it is enough to snuff out a life.

At ANY speed a helmet can save your life from these glancing blows.  direct impact? Would you let your friend hit you on the head with a lump hammer whether or not you had a hat on? I doubt it - I you wouldn't even be moving

With size CBR?

 

CBR250, CBR500, CBR650?

 

There might be a poster on here that knows of someone riding a red CBR in that area. 

 

From the other pics it looks like a CBR500 (looks like twin header pipes)

 

Anybody recognize the helmet for someone that rides a Red CBR500?

As stated many times, the most important is that brain driving that motorbike. That brain determines if accidents will happen or not. Gears only reduce the severity when accidents do happen.

Idiots will always be idiots. Especially new riders with adrenaline and ego. The most important investment is still that brain to learn from experience and strategies. No gear will ever save him.

We all know what would have happened to a foreign car driver seeing the biker moments before, daring to investigate the crash site, finding a dead Thai biker... Don't we?

Chances are like most here, you don't live in Thailand, you just hear bar stool chat and look at posts on anonymous forums, like you're gonna get reality there............right...it's pathetic really.

I see these guys constantly complaining about all things Thai, yet, they choose to stay here, whys that ?

Looks like CBR500R

He was wearing some cheap thai brand of helmet, with some plastic chin lock, not the the ring lock.

 

anyways, such a tragedy that could be avoided... RIP...

It was a new Red CBR 650F.  RIP
