I'm really fed up with firefox at the moment as it hangs, crashes and whatever more. I haven't updated to the latest version since I haven't read much good about that one,

I want to get a decent working browser. I'm a bit hesitant to install Chrome since Google already spies enough on us, but may be someone can confirm or reject that suspicion.

So which is the browser of choice at the moment for Windows 7 ultimate X64 ?

There was a bit of a survey around here recently ... Chrome was not on top of the list... it is the worst browser around in my opinion, it is certainly not the fastest as some people seem to claim. bah.gif .

I must say I don't have problems with Firefox.... perhaps try the update and see if things improve for you... wink.png

I see no problem with IE, used to use FF but I got sick of the unwanted disk activity it was causing whilst trying to sleep, it's also not as fast as IE either.

Would never even dream of installing Chrome for the issues you already mentioned.

I don't use opera for other reasons....

I agree for Opera.

Even on the spare laptop, which spends most of it's time locking up.... Opera will carry on smoothly, whereas IE, Firefox both especially will freeze eveything toa standstill for me

Yiks!!! .....Jesse, facepalm.gif somewhere here on the forum ....probably some where within computer section here... perhaps a week or two ago....

I tried Opera once, soon trashed it ! Being a Mac user, Safari is not that good either... I did not think anyone used explorer on Windoze anymore! tongue.png

They all have pros and cons, I suppose! wink.png

Never get this freezing problem with FF.....blink.png ?

Chrome is the only browser I use... And that's on Windoze, Mac, iPhone and Droid devices... Nice thing is that it syncs all your settings and plug-ins across all devices...

You can go back to a FF version that didn't have problems. Newer is not always better. I 'm happy with FF 19 ....yes 19.

The only time it crashes or freezes , it is the flash plugin. You just end the plugin-container.exe in task manager, problem solved.

I update FF all the time and it never gets better. I am hesitant to change because of the add ons which probably contribute to the problems I have.

For most of my work life I used IE at work and used the same at home. I was happy enough with it. But about a year ago I switched to Chrome as my primary browser, IE as my secondary/backup browser. I made that selection after having Chrome, IE, and FF loaded on my primary laptop for around a month and doing my best to use each browser equally during that month. When that test period was over I deleted FF and as mentioned I now use Chrome as my primary and IE as my secondary browser.

On my backup laptop which I don't use that often I have Chrome, IE, and FF loaded...last week when I updated FF form Ver 28 to whatever version it is now I was a little surprised in how the latest FF interface looks a lot like Chrome's interface/menus. But I only played with FF for a few minutes before turning the laptop off since it had completed it's various updates.

If privacy is an issue for you, maybe Aviator fits the bill.

Thanks for the tip, it seems to get some good reviews already, but of course since it is a first edition there will have to be made some improvements in the future.

Any experience with it regarding speed or other experiences ?

Google does not spy on anyone, including YOU. You try to make yourself seem like you are a VIP in this world, and that you would be a worthy person for some corporation or gov't to spy on.

But seriously, you're not important, and believe me when I say this... Google does not give one poop about you or your computer.

Go with Google Chrome.

Do some reading before yoy say again that google isn't spying on it's users.

You need to try and learn things for yourself rather than blindly follow what you hear.

Your FF and its extensions and plugins should all be updated to their latest versions.

I'm a bit hesitant to install Chrome since Google already spies enough on us, but may be someone can confirm or reject that suspicion.

Chrome can be made to be as secure as any other browser.

No just the information they can gather from you.

Have you ever used net stat @ command prompt when your browser isn't even open?

No of course you haven't.

Maybe should you consider SRWare Iron then. It is also based on Chromium (just like Google Chrome) but without any problems at privacy and security and has been around for several years already: http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_download.php

And a 3rd vote for SRWare Iron, been using it now for several years and quite happy with it.

Chrome and FF as alternates that don't get much use.

Absolutely never us IE. Well, not quite true, if I reinstall my OS, I have to use IE to download SRWare, then bye bye IE.

Oh I just use Chrome, I prefer the convenience and the whole spying thing doesn't bother me, I must bore NSA agents to tears if they want to go through my emails or browsing history.

I do read the news, but you are taking it out of context (and are posting links to not-so-reputable sites).

Google may (and undoubtedly does) track what sites are visited when you use your Chrome browser, but they are not spying on YOU. Google does not know whether it is YOU in front of the computer, or someone else. Of course if you are signed in using Google Mail, then you are pretty much telling Google who you are. But still, Google does not care about your surfing habits... they won't call the gestapo police on you.

Anyhow, semantics aside, it would be foolish to think that a company such as Google, would not gather surfing habits of the person using your computer. They are after all in business to generate revenue, and they can only do that by delivering ads that are tailored towards the person sitting at the computer.

I for one do not get pestered by any ads, for I employ the use of Ad-Block Plus.

I don't know what OS you are using, but if you have established connections to Google after you close your browser, then I would suggest that you employ the use of a virus/malware scanner to clean up your system.

Btw, I do use netstat (when there is a need), and no, on my Linux system I do not have any lingering connections established to Google (or any other site) after I close my browser.

I think you, and most other people have. It's called Google updater and runs when you start your PC.

Downloaded SRware iron and have started using it. First impression is that it's fast, but have to get used to the layout etc.

Will keep updated about my experience in a few days.

Thaivisa crashed once already biggrin.png

Edit : Make that twice.
