Visa Query.........

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I am confused at all this Visa stuff so any help / tips would be great on the following……..

To cut a long story short, I have visited Thailand on numerous occasions and I love the place, the people, the way of life, food, everything. I want to experience living there, so I have took a year out of work starting from Feb. I have done some research and Chiang Mai is the place I have opted for, however, the spanner in the works is that the air pollution in Chiang Mai is bad until April. My ideal scenario would be to travel around Thailand for a couple of months before spending 10 months in Chiang Mai. I have researched Visas and as I am interested in learning the Thai language, I was thinking about applying for a years ED visa.

This is where it gets complicated for me, because I won’t be starting my Education till 2 months into my stay…. I would be grateful if anyone knows exactly how to go about this? Is it possible? As I have read about having to leave the kingdom then return, which I want to avoid.

I am 28 from the UK.

Looking forward to any advice,

Shaun

If you got a one year ED visa it would be from an embassy or consulate and it would give you multiple 90 day entries. You would have to leave the country every 90 days.

You can get a single entry non-ed visa before traveling that would give a 90 entry if you were to enroll in a school and pay about 50% of the tuition to get the paperwork for the visa. Then you would apply for and get 90 day extensions at immigration.

You could possibly travel some during that first 90 days if you made arrangements with the school.

many thanks for your reply pal. So if I get a one year ED Visa, I would still have to leave the country every 90 days? or am i reading that wrong?

Also, is it better to get a Ed visa in place before I arrive in Thailand or once i arrive in Thailand? I am just abit wary with the Visa rules at the moment, I dont want to get over there, travel for a couple of month then there be a problem with getting the Visa if you know what i mean?

Thanks,

People incorrectly call paying the one year tuition, getting the single entry ED visa and extensions a one year ED visa.

You could enter on a single entry tourist visa. Find your school and get the paper work for the single entry non-ed visa and go out to a nearby embassy or consulate and then start doing your extensions.
