Ubon Hash House Harriers - September Run - Saturday 13th September

Featured Replies

With apologies for the late notice (due to the indisposition of the GM/hare/hare raiser and the fact he is in the UK right now) the next hash run will be on the 2nd Saturday of September, not the usual 1st Saturday.

Further details will be posted on this thread in the next 24 hours. It will be usual timing and usual pick-up offered from N-Joy bar

It seems to be a long 24 hours Flash Git. Surely you are not on Thai time over there are you?..........................on,on.

Yes - further apologies. I thought after I posted that message that perhaps I should wait until I can confirm the run location and had forgotten that I undertook to post within 24 hours. Anyway - arrived back form UK yesterday and checked out run today.

Ban Nong Gin Pen (sounds like Noarng Jin Paeng the way my wife says it) is a charming village on the Southern banks of the Mun about 6k west of the western section of Ubon ring road. We have run there before but I don't think most of our current crop of hashers have been there. It's a great place for a hash with lots of points where the run touches the river banks and the usual friendly and inquisitive villagers. My favoured beer stop seems to have disappeared since last time so I may need to serve the beer stop from the back of the hash truck.

Either find your own way to the run site (details and map in the Word document below) for a 4:30pm prompt start on Saturday 13th September. It's a bit tricky to find unless you are confident of my directions, so alternatively meet up at N-Joy bar for a 4:00 pm departure to the run site (details and map in the Word document below). Seats available for anyone who needs transport.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday along with a few of the ladies at N-Joy who told me today that they were up for it. Hope the weather holds so we can make the best of a great spot.

E-mail me (or PM me if viewing the ThaiVisa website) if you need more information.

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.
