The Euro 2016 Thread

Featured Replies

Time to talk about the international matches coming up this week, starting with Germany Scotland tonight - I can't really see much else than a 3-0 squarehead win to be honest.

Ireland kick off in Georgia and should have enough to squeeze past them - I fancy 1-2.

N. Ireland have a tough trip to Hungary, they might nick a goal but will go down to two or three goals I fancy.

England travel to Switzerland on Monday thinking that nicking a 1-0 win over Norway is ample preparation for Hodgson's 5-5 W-M-W-M-W-M formation. They might be right for a 0-1.

Wales should steamroller Andorra's pub team on the same night, a couple of goals at least.

Then there is bugger all until the 9th October.

Why can't they try and get at least two games a team out of the way and possibly three? Nothing but a nuisance. Just when the league gets going again it will all grind to a halt once more.

More like encroaching on the dreaded Monday.

I might watch Georgia v Ireland but if I stay up for the Scotland game it means I've been drinking all night and I will regret it tomorrow.

Oh and should tip a nod to plucky Gibraltar. Their first ever competitive Euro match tonight, at home to Poland.

I'm sure they'll enjoy the experience, and the Spanish will probably be moaning like stuck pigs about it.

Games are on Sunday, Monday & Tuesday and get used to it because there will be more of the same all through qualifying. It's all about the money, honey. That's why 24 teams will qualify now instead of 16 and why England and other "big" nations are in groups of 6 and not 5 (for reasons of TV rights, according to the organisers). Organisers are UEFA, as you know. Your description of them is almost correct - just prefix with the word greedy and there you have it. What Gibraltar add to the thing is debatable; no doubt it's a good place for a pre-match bevvy. If only their matches were actually played there - which they aren't. UEFA won't be happy till the Isle of Wight are in the competition along with any other discernible dots in the ocean that can get 11 men together in a "team". Still, I'll be watching Switzerland v England tomorrow. It's the most interesting fixture in the group, to be followed by 18 months of utter dross. Roll on the finals in France.

Stunning comeback from Northern Ireland. Should give Scotland some hope.

Well I see the Scots gave a good account of themselves, but I wonder how Ronaldo is feeling this morning.

Any info on which channel the Switzerland v England match is on? Guess it's just pot luck whether one of the public broadcasters is showing it. Yes - I'm back in Thialand - luckily close enough to soi 11 - good chance it'll be showing there somewhere

^ Bangkok Post said GMM Euro HD channel....whatever that one is. Starts after the Russia match so just find a pub packed with Ruskies and you'll be fine.

Think we're in for a battering tonight 4 -1 to the swiss anyone ?

What? You reckon we're gonna "Roll" over tongue.png Sorry, I'll get me coat

In fact I bet that is why the Swiss didn't join the EEA. If they had, they probably wouldn't be able to call them Swiss Rolls anymore because some are made at Warburton's or something along those lines.

In theory, with several quick counter-attacking players, we should play better against a team that will be expected to come at us than against the very un-Viking like stone-walling Norwegians. ... in theory.

As someone else said the Swiss fixtures are the only ones worth thinking about watching.

Hope no Gunners get injured!

There is a GMM Eurosport channel on my BKK's hotel CTH cable TV. Looks decidedly un-HDD mind. Must be cable-specific or a recent addition, as it's not on the list I updated in late July for my home CTH satellite set-up.

I'm going for 0-3 England win. Positive vibes and trying to convince myself it will be worth staying up for.

If Swiss Tony plays you could be right.

OK I take that back. GOONER!

Yep. A moderately average Gooner. Interesting to see how many goals he scores in the Prem.

given a full season at c/ f i reckon he get 15/ 20 first season. and given a second as c/f i reckon he'd return 20 plus. trouble is i dont reckon it'll be at the arse wipes giroud is just better than him......

england could afford to lose both games against switzerland and they would still qualify for euro 2016. they literally cannot not get out of this group.
