today at korat immigration i done my 90day report, then before i left i asked an officer for retirement extension forms as its due next visit. the forms were handed to me,then the officer wrote down on a piece of paper and told the wife that when you get your proof of funds from the bank the letter MUST BE ADDRESSED TO THE IMMIGRATION OFFICER AT NAKHON RATCHASIMA.

IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO GO AND GET ANOTHER ONE.

new or not as i have done 5 and this is the first time i have been asked for this.

just hope this post will be allowed to stand.

Thank you for this report. Should be useful for others using the same immigration office. I don't know how banks generally address this letter.

Has anyone who extended their visa recently in Pattaya had to have the bank letter addressed to the IO there?

Just to be on the same side, I might instruct my bank to do the same - should it then be the IO in Chonburi, Pattaya or Jomtien?

Since Chonburi province has two immigration offices, Sri Ratcha and Pattaya, I would get it addressed to the Pattaya immgration office. There are two names on that building: "Chon Buri Immigration" and "Pattaya Immigration Office"

Just did my extension renewal at Kap Choeng. I did not know who the bank addressed the letter to but this was not an issue. However, what the IO did make an issue of was the fact that I got the bank letter from a different branch of SCB to where my account is. He made a BIG issue of it despite the IO next to him saying it didn't matter because it was still the same bank. The IO reluctantly accepted this but then made another issue of the amount in the account -- way above the requirement. Again the IO sitting beside him made a comment that 1 baht over the required amount was OK. Not happy with this, the IO made me go and copy ALL the pages of my bank book, not just the last 3 months as required and as submitted. Just for a laugh, the second IO told my wife that the first IO was new at Kap Choeng which just goes to endorse the fact that IO's interpret the printed rules and requirements as they seem fit.

The bank manager at my branch of Bangkok Bank in Pattaya knows very well to whom he should address the letter. I wouldn't "instruct" him how to do the letter properly since he probably produces numerous letters every week if not everyday. If he was doing it incorrectly, I'm sure he'd have heard about it by now. No one at Jomtien has ever questioned the issue.

I did my yearly Retirement Visa this past July and was also told that next time it would have to be addressed to the Imm Officer. Also I was told that the letter must be in Thai and not in English.

I had a different issue last week concerning bank funds. all previous extensions I get a printed page of my funds in my bank account on the day of application for extension and photo copy of my bank book for the last three months only to find it is no longer accepted , the IO said that the photo copy must have an entry in the book for the day of application.

My bank is SCB , and they always write the letter in Thai: nothing in English

Did mine August 20 in Hua Hin nothing said to me.

Good to know, because I go there next month for my extension : they don't ask anything special: a plan to the new office, for instance ?

Understand but the issue is that my bank branch is in Bangkok

I do my extension every 90 days at Udon Thani. My bank account is at Loei and I obtain my letter on the day of reporting with that letter being obtained from the bank's branch In Udon. It is written in Thai with only my name and the amount in English. It is addressed to the Immigration Office at Udon and to date I have never received any problems and am always treated with the utmost respect. I did note however, that on the last occasion they did take a copy of every page of my passbook but there has never been a problem with how much I have in the account, which on many occasions far exceeds the required amount.

The last two occasions on which I reported I was not required to complete any forms as they are now computerised and once they put in the relevant information the Officer printed out the form, which he had me sign. I am not being a snob by any means but I think it helps if one dresses appropriately. I have seen many expats who turn up looking like they have just finished working in the fields. Cleanliness and politeness cost nothing which can also be said for one's attitude. I am not suggesting that the OP or those who have experienced problems are in any way other than polite or courteous I am just relaying what I have seen and heard in Udon

And maybe if one cannot speak Thai one can at least try and learn a little of the language so they can see that we are trying to assimilate. I am not fluent in Thai but can speak enough to get by and often get a laugh from them when I stuff up. They even go to the trouble, when I do this, to tell me the correct way to pronounce what I just said incorrectly. I never take offence and always thank them. I find that by being courteous and polite I have never spent any more than five minutes at the IO when doing my 90 day report and no more than an hour when obtaining my yearly extensions and re-entry permit..

On my very last report I was hospitalised and could not attend. Even though I obtained a letter for my wife to present, she showed them a photograph of my injuries and she was told not to worry about the letter as he could clearly see that I could not travel and that the photo was sufficient for him to accept the report via my wife. He never asked for a copy either.

I have nothing but praise for the men and women working in the IO at Udon Thani and have found, when I have been in attendance, that their treatment of myself and most clients, regardless of their nationality, has been given with the utmost respect and courtesy.
