Chiangmaijoe, will be on shortly telling you that you are a cheap Charlie

for trying to save a few Bht.,myself i try and make as many savings as

possible, not because i have to ,its just common sense.

Exactly. thumbsup.gif

Anyone who bashes another for not trying to save a few baht here and there falls into one or more of the following categories:

A) They are simply an idiot

cool.png They have more money than they know what to do with

C) They scrape by themselves and have no idea why they can never get ahead (usually goes hand in hand with A)

D) They are too drunk to notice

If you've never tallied up your total expenses, to the baht, every month, you should. It's a real eye opener and will show you exactly where your money is going as well as where you need to cut back. For myself, I was spending an insane amount of money on western food, almost triple what I was spending back in the USA! That is under control now, but before I tracked it all, I didn't really know how much I was wasting. There are free phone and computer apps to help you track if you are interested in doing so.

I've noticed the opposite case a lot more where someone reproaches posters for spending x amount of dollars on something when a version of it can be had for x/2. Particularly in the case of food and drink where, say, a hamburger may be much cheaper at some dive than, say, at the Duke's, but with no regard to the question of quality. For some people, pretty much all they taste when eating or drinking is the flavor of less baht spent.

I wouldn't knock it. "The flavour of less baht spent" is an acquired taste--acquired when one has less baht to spend.

Of course, there's no cause to knock others for spending whatever they want.

You haven't been to the Dukes lately?

Not the place it used to be.

Pizza is a disaster.

Last year it was a fantastic.

All good thinks come to an end, I won't go there again.

I had pizza at the Duke's twice in the last two months. It was far better than any pizza I've ever had in South East Asia and considerably better than the Duke's in the past. In fact, I won't go anywhere else for pizza, I think you just hit them on a bad day.

You may be right, but me and my 3 pals won't be chancing it again.

Plenty of other places to eat that haven't disappointed (yet).

Already mentioned in a post on another thread. Lot sweeties and chocolate (expiry is mostly Jul) is half price in M&S.; Sorry about the big slabs of white chocolate, I stocked up without regard to others.

(If you're really desperate, shave off some strips from white compound cooking chocolate.

Rimping near the iron bridge have 2 for 1 deal on Tilo`s (Belgian) Muesli, that is 221 baht for 2x 500gm boxes. There are 3 different flavours available. I suspect all Rimping branches will have this deal

White chocolate reminds me of candle wax.

It does not do much for me either, but dark chocolate and milk chocolate really ring my bell.

Meh. Plebeians, the pair of you.

Hmm. Cant help you with that but did pick up the Lindt Lindor at Tops Airport today, reduced from 282 to 91. Lindt dark down from 99 to 94 but it's only 50% cocoa so I left it there. The Lindor is enough indulgence for now...

Couldnt tell which way the pigs were flying but they were saying 'Moo' ???

'farang farm french market' Where????

Suan Pailom (Farang Farm) – Saturday Morning Market

It only happens once a week and you have to be there at a time when you’d much rather be in bed, but the Saturday morning market at the Farang Farm is not to be missed if you’re a fan of farmer’s markets, delicious pastries or revitalizing herbal tonics. A small gated community about 15 minutes outside of Chiang Mai’s old town, the Farang Farm (or Suon Pailom as is it’s more politically correct nomenclature) is home to a number of expats from around the world who have brought their craft to Thailand to share with others. The french baker’s Pain au Chocolat will end any gluten-free diet, not to mention his delicious assortment of gourmet loaves. The German bratwursts are a juicy treat at 8AM on a Saturday, and the herbal beverages from Lanna Herbs will cure you of any ailment you never knew you had. It’s a fun gathering of friends and strangers, and there’s sure to be something for everyone (as long as you get there before 9 when things begin selling out).

http://thecollaboreat.com/chiang-mai-food-guide/

That's old information. If you don't get there at 6:30-7:00 and get in the queue then there will be nothing left. We went again the other week, got there around 7:55 and everything was completely sold out.

Just go to their bakery in Nong Hoi - prices are exactly the same.

I am going way off topic here but.... the recently burnt fabric shops at Kad Luang have salvaged their undamged stock and are having a literal fire sale there, very cheap... also cheap food nearby.

"Streamline" jam in Rimping Nawarat @ 95 Bt a jar

Kasem Rachawong " Bonne Maman" jam buy 1 get 1 free @ 175 Bt - only 3 flavours though

They had great jam at Tescos a while back called Sauerkirsche which was imported but not that expensive. The heathens have rearranged their jam to mostly have the cheap horrible stuff only.

I have had to become a bit of a jam fanatic since the taste of Vegemite went down the drain.

You should make your own then, much better than the muck you buy in jars.

Frozen raspberries 165bht/Kg at Makro, sugar 23bht/Kg. (makes about 4 jars)

Boil equal amounts for 8 minutes = jam.

Frozen raspberries from where? China? Defrosted & refrozen how many times? No thanks. Big C have their own Casino brand @ 99 bt. Better than most here.

And you believe the ready made jam has better ingredients?

Quite frankly at 60, I'm too old to care where it came from or what chemicals went in it.

Not everyone is a aging hippy nutjob.

The only jam i have any sort of success with is plum and not many plums here. If going the home made route I would choose the one from Kasem

made by a longterm Chiang Mai resident. I think the "brand" is Molly Maid.

Good job I've ordered a hand delivered huge pot of Marmite next month as I can see myself slowly losing it with all the jam detail!

Tops at Central KSK:

various Agnesi pasta, promo buy 2, get 1 free

m&m, promo buy 2, get 1 free

Thank you for that, I shall be stocking up on pasta (but I'm going to try to ignore the M&M's because I put so much weight on over the last few weeks in England).
