Some really stupid posts here man and it's been turning into a Thai bashing tread, sad really.

The Thai police have done very well in this tragic case, okay the local police maybe not but the high ranking police coming in have, knowing that this is a very high profile case and they don't want to arrest somebody just for the sake of it but have tried hard to get the real murders by using DNA and asking questions.

None here knows what have been going on during the investigation 100% but only what you read in the press. Well I long time stopped believing in what I see/hear from them, especially the local ones.

I don't know if all the Thai haters here in this topic are living here or not? If you are, why don't you just leave?

I been living here for a long time (+10 years) and never had any big problems here. Before I settled down and got a family I was out partying all over Thailand, all night (alone), and was never mugged or ended up fighting. The closest I ever came to fighting was with some crazy drunk tourist but I choose to leave before it got out of hand.

It's not perfect here but if you keep a low profile you can have a very good life here and I intend to stay.

My Uncle was a forensic detective in Toronto for 25 years, he is here right now...I ran this story by him and he said in 99.99999% of cases he has seen if there is a murder/rape the two crimes are committed by the same person..

One can determine a minimum case count from a correctly rounded percentage. For example, 17% implies a minimum sample size of 6. The arithmetic can be more complicated, e.g. for 29%.

Agreed. An accurate interpretation of the post would be as you say, to use a "correctly rounded percentage", 100 percent, which allows for a "minimum case count" of 1.

I thought that at the very start of this investigation one of the soldier leaders ruled out a Thai as a Thai person would never do such a wicked thing and now it’s a Thai gangster with downs syndrome the whole thing is just getting confusing every time I look on Thai Visa it’s all changed again.

You have confused a stated percentage for a case count.

The confusion was mine, humor for serious. Would the number be 1 million or 10 million?

This whole thing constantly makes me sick to my stomach. I can't stop thinking about these two people. Lives brutally ended by some douche bags. The people in Koh Tao. PLEASE PLEASE Leave a note for the police, for the media, for anyone. Someone knows SOMETHING. Imagine if this was your child. How would you feel knowing the killers are walking free. What if they do it again. ?? Their evil horrific blood is on your hands. Please do the right thing and turn them in!

Yes,but the uk police wouldn't give out false information, false hopes for the families, nor would they describe the injuries in quite such graphic detail.

....

Can people imagine some grisly murder and rape in the UK of some foreign tourists, with the UK police stating that no British person would ever do something so evil and thus exclude all British people from the investigation, focusing their investigation solely upon foreigners?

If they did, imagine the outcry, imagine the national shame. The police responsible would be immediately fired and attacked in the media.

Here in Thailand, well, it's another story isn't it. Tells you something doesn't it, says quite a lot.

It's just bizarre to say the least. It's like we're teaching mongoloids to try to step up further on the evolutionary ladder. Not their imaginary make-believe world. Education is such a joke in Thailand. They are brainwashed so bad into believe something like that. It's very very dangerous.

David's body was naked with the clothes strewn around, so he either was stripped by the murders, skinny dipping, or having sex with Hannah.

The original report said he was raped too. I dismissed it, but considering he was totally nude, makes you wonder. Either that, or like you said, he was having sex with her, who was not totally nude.

The whole story is just crazy with conflicting reports every which way. Perhaps one day, after the police frame some poor Burmese kid and he re-enacts the crime, the story will get closure.

They never give up do they?

According to Sunday's UK Guardian:

"Police Colonel Kissana Phathanacharoen said: "We have discovered fresh evidence which could lead to a new suspect who may have had a relationship or one-night stand with Hannah or one of her friends or David the night before they were killed".

Desperate to blame the victims.

Everybody - go to Sean Mcanna's Facebook page. If this is for real it could be a major break

He is in danger now - I hope he gets some protection as people like this will have no hesitation in killing again and will have connections with the police as well as others. He needs to get out. Thai mafia kill and threaten to get anything they want. The apologists on here who have been fortunate enough to avoid trouble are just that fortunate. I understand their point of view because they have not had the experience but plenty of others have.

Thats one of the most powerful families on the Island. I'd say the situation has just become very dangerous right now. I was warned never to cross that family, or deal with that place when I lived there.

AC Bar belongs to one of the "Big 3" powerful families on Koh Tao. Those families have the police in their pocket. The Thai government doesn't get a look in.

I think this has got too big for anyone to get away with this. All eyes are on the Thais to see how this will be resolved, if this info is correct they will have to act on it.

Proper justice (for this and all the butchery and rapes by Thai men) would only happen with international pressure. I mean sanctions, I mean Criminal Court, but that will never be.

The islands are run tightly by the Big 3. Well known fact. Problem is the police are so intertwined with these three families it is like removing a wart.

The ganglia growth extends into the surrounding area of tissues.

In this case the police force based in Phuket Phang Na Koh Tao and Samui including smaller stations in Samui are all just as involved. Samui is the worst and if there were ever an investigation into the police at every rank they would all be inprisoned. Their bank accounts alone show inexplicable amounts of funds that the officers will have put away for their retirement.

Each Colonel allows their station to be run in this manner and they become beholden to the instructions of the mafia no matter what poor citizen stands in their way. If the framed citizen or the citizen is denied proper and fair legal channels, somehow they just go missing and we hear "they moved during the night " and no one knows where or hears from them again.

I hope that this event of these two poor British citizen murders will be enough to call for an urgent police enquiry but I doubt it will happen.

The army s reforms don't seem to include the hardest reform of all - the police outside of Bangkok. Just marketing and happy slogans. Where s the hard work happening here army ?

Bravo - you are brave and strong and set a shining example for all. Simply more of the same.

You should be ashamed of yourselves. The army let these children down and are ultimately responsible.

This case would have been solved days ago if the same people implicit in this milieu of this society were not called in to investigate their own.

The Y chromosome test could likely narrow it down to migrants or local Thais, The authorities do not really want to catch Thais. The dead foreigners are guilty of participating in a full moon party.

Migrants are guilty of being poor and not being Thai. Ethnocentrism anyone ?

Useful post Number 3 though not so sure about the army being a shining example. We've seen all this window dressing before from the army. The jury remains out on that for a long long time.

After all, you were correct when you wrote: "...The army let these children down ..."

Army vs Police? Well that is a very tough nut to crack.

To comment on my article I neglected to add that the local police in the area and the Bangkok police are butting heads it is reported and both appear to be working to different goals. Bangkok police are trying to solve the case and butting with the local coppers who are trying to smooth everything over and doing their best to actively not assist the Bangkok police there. They are chasing the red herrings in order to appear to be doing a lot towards the case knowing full well who it is. Bangkok police are trying to do their best under extreme conditions. Yes I have contacts in the force that are there if you are wondering. Regardless where is the army ? That is my question not theirs. Shameful to say the least that this coup has shown the army to be yet another lot of puppets keeping the status quo

Shining example was 100% tongue in cheek. I am actually to the point of disgust with their media comments and promotional shows. The army should feel ashamed at their inaction and disinterest and Sabai Sabai sanook happy happy attitude. They are the goddam army they seized control of the country to clean it up.

So where are they ? Appalling behavior by the army.
