Thai authorities, villagers team up to bury drowned chickens

Bangkok: -- Authorities and villagers in southern Thailand teamed up to bury the carcasses of 20,000 drowned chickens, a report said Sunday.

The animals died Saturday after heavy rains caused flash floods at a chicken farm in the province of Krabi.

Thairath newspaper reported that villagers were concerned about possible diseases that could emerge from the dead chickens.

Authorities and locals teamed up to bury the carcasses, each weighing around 1.5 kilograms, using trucks and tractors.

Several houses and roads were also damaged by the rains and floods, the report said.

Heavymon soon rains have caused flooding in 27 Thai provinces this year, leaving at least nine people dead and affecting thousands, mostly in the northern regions of the country.
