My Key Keeps Sticking

Featured Replies

I have a D-tracker 125cc and the key is difficult to turn

is there something simple I can try before I bring it to the shop.

I see a guy on you tube using WD40 ,is that on sale here or is there a Thai equivalent.

How do you use it on a bike.

Usually you can buy WD40 in any/many supermarkets, hardware stores, etc.

Or buy Sonax MoS2 Oil. Its approved by Mercedes smile.png

Dont buy any cheap fake WD40/MoS2 Oil. No need for doing so imo.

How do you use it on a bike? Spray it into the key hole :)

I usually recommend getting some graphite spray. Won't retain dust and crap like an oil based spray can.

+1 on the graphite.

In a pinch a soft pencil (remember those?) rubbed on the key (get it nice and black) will work wonders and no oily gloop.

Is this graphite spray available in hardware stores orTesco or do have to go to homepro.

By a soft pencil do you mean a 2B dark pencil

I've never tried a coloured pencil assuming there is no graphite in one. Is there?

O.K,I know tesco has 3B pencils.......but this graphite spray

is it available in Thailand and what is it called...........

would it also be better on my drill chuck instead of machine oil.

Not sure where to buy or Thai name...but use machine oil for your drill. It's much cheaper and also helps cool the drill bit which graphite won't do.

Rub the key on a bar of soap.

DO not use a bar of soap.

I love how here on TV people love to over complicate things biggrin.png A quick spray of WD40 or Sonax would likely work just fine and you lot have the poor guy running around looking for 3B pencils. clap2.gif

WD40 will work for a short time but it also attracts the dust and grime and will make the situation worse. . Graphite is the answer or what i have been using for years is lanolin spray that a lot of locksmiths use. I doubt if the local hardware would stock it so maybe if your misus uses it for her skin just stick your key into the lotion and then insert into the keyhole and twist it about like doing the hokey pokey. Don't let tour misus see you inserting it into her lotion though.

Yeah graphite is definitely the way to go. I don't think that using graphite is any more complicated than WD-40... especially if it saves you some hassle further down the road.

no wd 40 for key hole preferably. graphite spray or pencil idea is better.

O.K,

It's all about finding the gear now.

I can get a 3B pencil in Tesco.

If I had some kind of product name for the lanolin or graphite spray

I could could try to find the lanolin in Thailand and the graphite on eBay.

If it was at home I could just walk into a chemist and ask for something with lanolin in it but here

the chemists don't know what's in their products.

I'll start with my missus's lotions and then try lip salve and stuff.

It's good to solve this problem well seeing as I will be here for a while

Ouch!

If you really must use an oil like WD40, put it on the KEY then wipe off with a paper towel to leave a thin film.

Then insert and operate a few times, you really need a tiny amount in the lock barrel.
