It says in that article that "The B teams will not be eligible for promotion above League One. The suits at the FA have been sufficiently aware to realise that teams playing themselves might be a step too far."

What about if they draw each other in the League or FA Cups?

Another crackpot idea from the FA. Reserve team football needs to be revitalised and re-connected to the first teams. Too many clubs play reserve (or Development, or Under 21) team football in another town at a lower or non-league ground. I'd like to see reserve teams playing at the proper home ground, knowing when they run out that if they play a blinder they could be back next week playing in front of a full house in the 1st team. Have competitive local leagues with a trophy at the end of the season. Have cups, maybe on a national basis. Have play-offs between regional champions to find the best in the country. Use some imagination. I remember the buzz around town when a young tyro was tearing it up in the reserves. Fans would go & watch. Entrance fees now could be a nominal sum or included in the season ticket. If anyone thinks that this a longing for years long passed, well maybe so, but it was the system in place when England won the World Cup.

So effectively you want to set up a rival to the football league ? better IMO to restructure the current loan system onto a commercial / business basis and redirect some of the huge wealth earned by the prem down the current league structure.

^????? Already happening lad so I'm not sure what your point is. As shown below, some games are played at Anfield and others elsewhere. Cannot play every match on the same pitch, and we never did! Even in the 60's some games were played at Melwood.

And we already have a local competition in the form of the Senior Cup!. Far better for the kids to play against all their top club peers than to play against the likes of Fleetwood ressies who would love the chance to boot LFC's next star into the stands! (edit,.....altho' the tricky blues do have a habit of doing this on a regular basis)

Quote from website today! Jordan Lussey converted a fine free-kick as Liverpool U21s played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Friday evening

Next game at Anfield v Southampton on 6th October.

PS! Entrance fees are a fiver!

No I don't want to set up rival leagues, I want reserve team leagues like the Central League and the Football Combination leagues of yesteryear. I want to see teams made up of young players knocking on the door of the first team, some first teamers who have lost their places and the odd first teamer returning from injury. I actually don't think it will happen because the Premier League will not be dictated to by the FA. There are only 4 Premier League teams who have both an English manager & an English owner. The national team can go whistle.

yeah i went to enuf combination game's bottom line is, it was always reserve team football and nowhere near as competitive as any strata of the football league, and that's what the f a should be selling the prem, look at all the loan players out and to what long term benefit for the lower league clubs barring getting the players ,, NISH

I would rather they did more to encourage the loan system and strengthen lower league football rather than leave capable footballers out of sight in reserve teams.

yep agreed the loan system should be modernised. and it'll be great way for the prem clubs to help re ignite the lower lge fire which they've, effectively , almost put out.

Maybe the bigger clubs could adopt a lower league club who are in trouble and loan players to them and financial help too.

thats my take on it nev, but a touch more formal like a contract for x years and x players going there. like a finishing school. good way for some lower lge clubs to get some more income and could/would look good and actually be good for the prem.no say in the running of the smaller club barring standard of training facilities. but no deliver players no renawal of contract and visa versa deliver players and the contract money goes up.

Don't Chelsea & Man Utd do this already? But with teams abroad. I like the way Arsenal always play a pre-season friendly with Barnet and I think their ladies team play there too. Not quite the same but you get my drift.
