Can anybody provide advice on how to set about bringing your pet dog from Australia to Chiang Mai?

He is a wire fox terrier and weighs about 9 kilograms. Thank you.

Taking your dog back would be a long and expensive process. I believe it's 6 months in Quarantine and that's not free!

6 months in Singapore + 1 month in Australia. You'd be lucky to see any change from $10,000. Easy to get the dog into Thailand though. If you want a quote you can message me

You can bring a dog direct to Thailand from Oz on Thai airways in some capitals. I have a friend that has done this in Perth. In Sydney another friend used a company called Jetpets who arranged everything. Thai airways have a pet policy.

Its not that expensive......and there was no quarrantine for both of my friends dogs. One travelled with them....Perth to Bgk to Cnx

Some really good advice on this website though they came from England the procces is similar I should imagine coming from Australia.

We bought our dog from the Uk a big lurcher and it was easy, a few stressful moments getting all the paperwork together.

VERY IMPORTANT If your final destination is Chiang Mai( i.e. you and or your dog is not leaving the airport at Bangkok, you must get the import certificate from the Chiang Mai livestock authorities and not from Bangkok as advised on most websites including official Thai sites. Thai airways are very good.

Be prepared to part with approx 15,000 Baht when you pick your dog up at cargo terminal, for various fees.

A visit to your vet to enquire about sedation might not be a bad idea. Some dogs travel O.K. while others can get distressed.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SEDATE YOUR DOG PRIOR TO AIR TRAVEL. It is extremely dangerous for the dog and any vet worth his salt will not do it anyhow

under no circumstances send your pet as cargo. it should travel with you in the hold on same flight as you with your baggage. Ours was sent by cargo by mistake and we had to pay a lot of fees and could not get the dog for two days and all sorts of bad problems

Ok we have recently shiped 2 mini Schnauzers from Auckland to CNX.

Now this does get complicated, re BKK transit due ,most flts arriving about 8pm when clearing authority staff have gone home. This means the animal will have to stay in the crate until the next day.

We had our dogs shipped Akk to KUL on MAS, then quick transit to BKK. Dogs were cleared by Patrick of K9 dogs BKK.

He will clear, care for the animals then on ship to CNX.

This gets obviously more complicated ,as possibly you are not picking the dog up at BKK before 1630! The cost for us with 2xdogs 9kg was about 5k nzd.

The dogs were shipped un sedated cargo and were fine. Critical thing is to have them arrive in BKK during norlal working hours. Would be easier if you had a direct flt to CNX.

Like shippibg from Auckland nothing direct. Patrick in fact boarded the dogs for two weeks and is highly recomended Hope this helps.Cheers.

I used JetPets in Sydney to transport my miniature schauzer to Chiang Mai. I highly recommend you do so too. They were extremely helpful and personally sent a driver around to pick up our dog for vaccinations and then again for sending her off to the flight. I arranged to fly on the same flight and upon arrival it was late in the evening but Jetpets had made arrangements for her to clear customs immediately (extra money had to be paid, of course) and the local representative of Jetpets stayed at the office late to greet me and release my dog to me. I then headed back to the domestic terminal with my dog, booked her as cargo on the next Thai Airways flight to CM, and we arrived safely in CM a couple hours later.

If you have any intention of returning with your pet to Sydney, the warnings others have mentioned are absolutely true. Prepare to spend a ton of money, a ton of paperwork and vaccination/testing logistics, 6 months in quarantine if coming direct from Thailand. It's a nightmare. In my case, I brought my dog to the Los Angeles (minimal paperwork and expense and no quarantine) where we stayed at an AirBNB rental place for 6 months. Then we headed to Sydney where she still had to do a mandatory 30 day quarantine. We were limited to 2 x 30 minute visits per week. She got very sick there and probably would not have lasted 60 days. Definitely would not recommend this to anyone!!

There are differences of opinion as to this. But some dogs are very excitable and need to settle down. An antihistamine is usually recommended. Like I said talk to your vet instead of listening to TV experts about health matters - animal or human.
