Advice on Shipping a Parcel Package of Jelly/Gel Packets to USA, & recommended post offices?

Hey everyone,

I've been reading a lot about experiences people have here with Thai Post offices, whether they use any of the variations of EMS, SAL, FedEx, DHL, UPS, surface, air, etc., etc. and there doesn't seem to be a clearly promising option. So far it's looking like EMS or registered Thai air mail might be the best two options.

But first, I'm still not sure whether small gel packets are allowed to be shipped? Let's just say that my friend back home gets really excited when he eats a special ketchup packet from this corner of the world w00t.gif and the ladies are appreciative as well giggle.gif so with that being said, does anyone have any advice on the best way to internationally ship a couple dozen packets or so?

I'm also curious whether customs really x-rays the packages, or as one TV member posted, they only x-ray 10% of outgoing parcels (really doesn't mean much without any sufficient proof). I know that some packages are opened right there for inspection in the post office when you drop off and pay for your parcel, although I kinda got the idea that this only applied to certain shipping services?

I've been told that there should be no problem sending it by surface mail and this would take a month or two for delivery but for this package I'd like to try to get it there in about a week.

I'd really appreciate any advice at all, including perhaps the locations of some reliable and less of sticklers for whatever "rules" I'm sure they all follow themselves. I have been told that some post offices are much easier to work with than others. I'm in Bangkok by the way.

Also, if anyone feels like this topic is in any way borderline self-incriminating to be discussing information about this (although there is nothing really unlawful about this) please feel free to PM me if not comfortable posting here. Thanks all wai2.gifwai2.gif

Alright, briefly here's a breakdown for you:

Small Packets should be less than 2kg and left untapped for the customs to open them if required. Therre's a small difference in price between SAL (about 20 days to reach recipient) and Air (10 days). I'd recommend using Air method.

If your parcel is over 2 kg, you can tape it.

Unless, you are in a rush, there is no need to shell out more for EMS.

In any cases (except EMS), you can buy a registered number that will enable you to track your parcel for 65thb per item. Keep in mind, you will be able to track it in thailand only and via sups website once it is accepted thru customs.
