Malerone availability

Featured Replies

howdy y'all. my family and i are off on our annual trip to thailand next month. we;re going to ubon, in an area between det udom and nahm yuen where the in=laws live. i usually take malerone but the prices here in the uk are obscene (quoted £120 for two weeks worth by travel clinic). naturally when i mentioned getting them cheaper in thailand the nurse started going on about either ending up with fake tablets or not having them at all. will an average bkk pharmacy stock them? we usually stay in pratunam

Not available but you can take doxycycline which is available locally instead, Google doxycycline and malaria prevention for more information, CDC is good site.

Malarone is not available. Malanil, however, which has the same active ingredients is. It's a "special controlled" drug, so requires a prescription and is only available in top-notch pharmacies and hospitals. It's manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, so is imported and won't be cheap.

However, I very much doubt you need malaria prophylaxis unless you're going to go into darkest jungle.

Search for the other recent thread. Malerone is available in BKK for outbound travellers; you don't need it here. The biggest mosquito threat to you in Thailand is Dengue!
