Minor Annoyance

Featured Replies

My usual Mac guru website is down, so I'll see if anyone here has had similar problems, or can think of a solution.

Very minor, but it is an annoyance:

when I open a new window in the finder, using either Cmd N or the menu command, that window opens at the top of the screen.

I prefer it at the bottom, and move it, but even if it's been closed there, a new one always opens at the top of the screen.

The only way I've corrected this is to restart my iMac (OS 10.8.5) and it works as I like it, until it doesn't.

Don't want to be restarting regularly, but I do want that window opening where I want it.

Anyone think of a solution to this very minor annoyance?

From an Apple Support Community post.

I would guess it will also save the position as well.

Save Finder window size

"Create a new folder on the Desktop (CMD+SHIFT+N), open it, select View-View Options (CMD+J), set the window to your desired size and type view (either icon or list view: I prefer the latter), select always open, and then click Use as Defaults button. That should retain your setting and every other folder you open for the first time should also inherit those settings."

Thanks, Rich. I'll keep a note of this.

I did a software update, which of course involved a restart, and the problem seems to have been resolved, at least temporarily. Don't know if it was the update or the restart.

But I'll keep a note of your information in case it occurs again. Many Thanks.
