There's always a risk of death when anesthesia is administered. I hope this is investigated by the Department of Health, but most hospitals and clinics would have a patient sign a consent form for the surgery.

The main problem in Thailand is almost never they ask you about allergies.

I had a few surgery's here and they never asked , only when I told them and insisted they write it in red.

Go to any pharmacy and ask for antibiotic for whatever, dumb dumbs never ask if you have or aware of any allergy

I've always been asked at the hospital. Very efficient and professional.

in fairness Thailand is kind of renowned for it's beauty parlours and particularly plastic surgery - thanks mainly to surgery on ladyboys. This kind of thing can happen anywhere (and does). As they say "buyer beware". Plenty of people have died in Harley Street surgeries when they shouldn't have and Harley Street is reckoned to be topnotch. Sad news, RIP.

RIP. Brits and Burmese should think twice before coming to Thailand.

Just like some people should think twice before posting!!coffee1.gif

Why is that.......?

Would it be possible for a patient to die like this in a Thai clinic and not have it called out as malpractice? Because if she got it done in an expensive European hospital she'd be told every operation has a fatality risk.

I actually had eyelid surgery at SP Clinic last Tueaday one week prior to this death.

The doctor was very good about preparing me for surgery and advising me about my options for sedation. I had a long and detailed consultation with him. I chose a mild sedative and local anesthesia. I was awake and watching the entire operation. My pulse and blood pressure were closely monitored. I was going to have a second procedure done ,but he was worried that my blood pressre was very high from my anxiety and he made me come back two days later to do the other procedure. That was Thursday. He took all precautions and gave me correct sedation and a anti anxiety Med as well as local numbing shots. The surgery lasted two hours and he never rushed me or took risks. I went back on Tuesday this week to have my stitches removed and he was great and took his time.

I have tried calling all day to the clinic and really hope this was a terrible accident and no negligence on either doctor or patient. He is very educated and has many patients from all over the world. My Japanese friend had the same surgeries I had all at once due to her BP being low. She says she experienced the same as I did. Professional... Clean... and no bad side effects.

Very scary to read this today.

We both denied full sleeping after Joan Rivers death. Too many chances for complications with general anesthesia.

RIP

All you have done here is described a lay-person's subjective view of a procedure - there is nothing you ca say that can be construed as a "expert's" view of how well it was carried out.

Al you can say ides that you feel OK and are not dead.

What should I say? Mind your own business if you want to put words in my mouth.

I have the right to tell EXACTLY MY DETAILS of MY SURGERY without your third party snide remarks. You are very rude about others life and death. See ya.

precisely WHAT words have I put in your mouth????

you have right to say what you like, just as I am likely to point out the failings in wat you say and comment on its value as an opinion.

we are talking about a death here that resulted from medical "malpractice" in Thailand - it is very unlikely that many people are aware of what ca happen in Thailand if the subject of malpractice arises......your comments as an assessment of medical procedure are those of a lay-person and should be taken as such---preferaly with a pinch of salt.

This is a Thai News Story & reported as such. Post with accusations removed & member dealt with.

Thank you for your intervention.

Are our members so bored with their lives that they have to post such speculations?

Please remember that the young lady has family and friends who may read this thread.

We lost a son to the senseless murder between polytechnic students earlier this year.

I am sooooooo glad that it was not reported here............

RIP the poor girl and my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

RIP. Brits and Burmese should think twice before coming to Thailand.

Why ?

EVERYONE should take note...why was a general anaesthetic used without an ICU nearby? What arrangements were made for possible emergencies - al these Qs need to be addressed.......

and ALL visitors to Thailand should think seriously before having "non-essential" medical care here.

Administering anesthesia should require a license and regulations.

You mean browsing through 'Anesthesia for Dummies' won't do it anymore to open a surgery clinic here?

Oh what bad timing for the thais. Perhaps the British police will be buying a house instead of renting one. Quite frankly the whole country could do with a shake up. People need to know this host country is one of the most dangerous countries to visit. More needs to be done to stop brits from travelling to thailand. They don't deserve our custom.

AND, what use is it to sign a 'patient consent form' if the 'anesthetist' is not qualified or 3 parts asleep.

As for 'There's always a risk of death when anesthesia is administered' there is also a risk in crossing the road.

There have been a number of cases in the realm where people have undergone cosmetic surgery and come out disfigured.

There are no gaurantees in life (and much less here in the realm)

"But Brits are raised on the fable of a competent properly-funded well-equipped patient-focused national health-service, they ought to know better, and be just a tad more cynical/worldly".

Oh! to be wise after the event!............. and what's this "...they ought to know better..." The girl was 24 for gods sake and her looks were probably all she thought about and it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the NHS. Yet another poster who equates all of Britain with one poor unfortunate incident.

At 11 pm at night there may be the possibility that there was alcohol in her blood stream when the anesthetic was administered...not a good combination. May she rest in peace and her family find all the help they need. Hardly an occasion for smart allicy posts.

RIP,

clarification for the RTP , dont need to check the DNA of the Anasthesist !

It was the 2nd visit, so she have propably ordered 2 sessions,

so Anesthesist gave her just the " Correct 2 doses ""

Do you have any evidence that she was drinking?

Some of us don't drink on a daily or even a weekly basis.

To say she was drinking, prior to the operation, is putting the blame on the patient, much as the clinic appears to be trying to do so.

there are TONNES of posts all over the net warning about healthcare in Thailand....anyone thinking of having stuff done should do as much research as possible. she may have been waiting in a queue in UK or something like that - just speculation at present, but others need to heed this warning and seriously consider what they are doing.

IF she had been drinking and IF the clinic suspected this and still continued, then surely the clinic is still at fault?

No-one think "Noah" could be a guys name?

"Joy...Noah Willam"...reading the top of the passport down is how it was read out on PBS.

Transposed the names? Noah William Joy or Joyce? Or maybe Joy Noah-Williams?

Knowing the Thai police I wouldn't put getting the wrong sex of the deceased past them! whistling.gif

If anyone happens to know, what is the name of the clinic?

Is it SP Clinic?

If so, it looks like his reputation is somewhat well identified...http://spclinicdangeroursdrsompobwarning.blogspot.com/2011/12/sp-clinic-warning-botched-surgeries-by.html

Ok she goes to a plastic surgen for hip surgery at 11 pm at night.

thats like going to the orthopedic surgeon for a nose job.

it may be liposuction around the hip area.

you cannot give general anesth if the person has eaten recently. even if she lied the anesthesiologist should be able to place a breathing tube fast to minimize aspiration. he should also know how to deal with any heart abnormality and/ or blood pressure issue assuming the emergency supplies/drugs are at hand. 24 y/o can do well after resuscitation.

how much faith can you place with the police in checking for emergency equipment and license. often you can pass the inspection with an envelope.
