Surin to hold the great elephant party in November

SURIN, 1 November 2014 (NNT) – Surin province is gearing up for the 2014 Elephant welcoming party and buffet which is set to take place during the 13th and 14th of November 2014.

The President of the Surin Provincial Administrative Organization Kittipat Rungtanakiat said that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the elephant party, where the event will take place at the Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Chang Wang Monument.

First held in 1992, the elephant welcoming party and buffet is the annual event held two days before the Surin Elephant Round-up, and event which welcomes all the elephants taking part in the round-up. In 2003, the elephant buffet was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest elephant buffet with 50 tons of food feeding 269 elephants.

For 2014, the event will start at 1pm of 13 November. Activities include the elephant food table competition, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 2014 elephant buffet record by the Guinness World Records, the Surin traditional arts and performances, and the award ceremony.

On 14 November from 8.30am, there will be the welcoming parade and the buffet for elephant. The parade will give a glimpse of the Elephant World project which is the special tourist attraction that expects to open its first phase in late 2015. There will be more than 200 elephants taking part in this event.

55 tons of food will be served to the elephants on the 400 meters long table decorated with traditional Surin silk. Thai and foreign visitors will be amazed by the intelligence of these elephants which will be memorable for both the visitors and the mahouts in this event.

You will always get the haters, the do-gooders but, I'm Mr Average.

I went to the Elephant Round up maybe 4 or 5 years ago ... had a hoot of a time.

If you have never been, do make the time to go one day and hopefully you will enjoy the week-end as much as I did.

have been a few times, worth a visit to see the elephants.

I have been twice, took two friends the second time. Had a great time there both times. You do need to book accom early though so don't wait if you plan to go. Take a few extra days and have a look around the Isaan area perhaps.

Evil stuff. Don't go.

I never succeeded in watching this to the end.

Went to one many years ago. Excellent!!

We were to have gone by Train from BKK but Thai Rail was On Strike, so they put us all up overnight (bunch of Journos from around the world) at the Oriental, very nice! although for some reason the Mini Bars were all locked, then they loaded us onto a couple of large Buses and gave us a Three-Police-Car-Escort all the way to Surin and back after the event.

Great fun for all concerned....including the ELEPHANTS!!!

Evil stuff. Don't go.

I never succeeded in watching this to the end.

Difficult to consider Thais as human.
