Trat confirms no Ebola on Australian man

TRAT, 5 November 2014 (NNT) – Trat Provincial Public Health Office held a press conference to announce that the Australian man who returned to Thailand on October 17 from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was not infected with the Ebola deadly virus.

Trat Provincial Public Health Officer M.D. Charat Wasuthada said the man was spotted at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on his arrival and was found to have an elevated temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius. He was then put under quarantine at home in the province for a period of 21days which is the Ebola incubation period. As the quarantine came to an end today, Dr. Charat announced the man was free from Ebola.

Even though no Ebola cases were found in Thailand, Dr. Charat assured that the Provincial Public Health Office would remain vigilant at all times to prevent Ebola importation by screening visitors from abroad at all points of entry. Other preventive measures have also been put in place including medical treatment preparedness, in line with the Ministry of Public Health’s policy. Furthermore, an exercise of the contingency response plan of Ebola outbreak will be conducted on 17 November at Banpu Resort and Spa in Trat.

Regular human temperature is between 36.5 to 37.5 centigrade (internal temperature ~37, while measuring from place like mouth or ear 36.8), and varies over the day approx. 0.5 centigrade as well. Hardly a fever they are talking about x)
