Army allows political factions to hold opinion survey on draft charter

BANGKOK, 13 November 2014 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Army has indicated that political parties can conduct an opinion poll on the draft charter as long as it does not breach peacekeeping conditions.

Regarding the attempt by some political parties that want to take an opinion survey within their own parties, Army spokesperson Colonel Winthai Suwaree said they can do so without breaking the rules set forth by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

The spokesman said some political parties are able to seek opinions, as they already have access to their supporters. Useful information should be presented promptly. However, if they attempt to seek comments on the draft charter inappropriately then it would be unlawful. Colonel Winthai advised them to seek advice from the NCPO first.
