Petrol thievery in CM?

Featured Replies

Got a car, old style, with no locking petrol (gasoline) door or gas cap. If i park on the street long term, what's the risk of gas thieves sucking up my stuff?

Parking in area around CM YMCA, for example.

There is a 47.3% chance that you will incur theft within 60 days.

There is a 64.9% chance that you will incur theft within 180 days.

There is a 87.6% chance that you will incur theft within 360 days.

If you chain a large dog to your rear bumper with a long enough chain to go around the sides, the percentage is substantially reduced. Exact reductions are dependent on type of dog.

Very low,I would think, never heard of this kind of thing happening

but take your car for service at some garages with a full tank and

it will not be returned the same.

I think Jobin was hoping for a sensible answer.

A bigger issue will be theft from auto repair places.

Jobin-

What do you mean by long term?

What brand model and age of car?

This is relevant if you want help. A classic Benz parked for 2 years would get more attention than a 10 year old Honda moved daily.

Even with a locking fuel cap one of our neighbours at an old house had his fuel line cut to drain off the fuel.

What make/ model and colour is your car, and where exactly do you park it?

Thanks in advance.

With he cost of petrol being what it is, you would think that theft - even by forcible means - would be more common in Chiang Mai.

None of my family, friends, or acquaintances have ever mentioned it happening to them... but then, they are mostly people who park their cars and motorbikes in secure places at night.

I do have a personal experience from years ago before I was married. I had a girlfriend who lived in a hawng pahk on the 3rd floor near Tha Phae Gate in the old town. I would often stay the night and in the morning come down to find the tank of my Yamaha Enduro almost empty. Soon one of the older women selling food nearby told me it was being siphoned off by a young cop who lived in the building.

So there you have it... "police problems" in Chiang Mai are nothing new.

Stupid question, but if the OP has concerns regarding theft of gasoline from his parked vehicle, has he considered buying a locking fuel cap for his car?

Put on Thai sticks that say, this car is guarded by the previous owner's ghost.

Might I suggest a slight modification to your post..... Put on Thai sticks that say, this car is guarded by the previous "Gas Thiefs" ghost.
