where to buy Antiques and persian rug in Issan

I live in the sticks but can drive to any big city in Issan. Can you tell me the name of any shop that might sell persian rugs and one that sells antique furniture.

Years ago, I tried to buy a swiss-alphorn, ski's and a decent pair of ice-skates and a polar-bear pelt to serve as a doormat. Much to my disappointment, couldn't find any of the above. I had to drive all the way to Bangkok. Outrageous !

bangkok .if you go to vientiane an easy car trip you will have a choice.they can take to nong khai usually. personally i bring it all back in luggage from europe or new zealand ,cheaper and endless choice.

Good quality area rugs, are in my experience, a pain in the ass to find. You can find two types:

1. Very low quality, contemporary styles, at low price at the likes of Homepro, Index etc

2. Persian style, overly priced at stores in Bangkok

Maybe you can try baan and beyond in khon kaen for the rug not sure about antiques

You will have to find a very high end furniture store to get a real Persian carpet and it will be expensive. I saw some a few years ago somewhere in Bangkok but haven't looked in years and don't remember where I saw them then

You might find some if you can hang out where the Iranians hang out in BKK.

My ex-wife in the US has about 15 of them ranging from Nain wool and silks to Qom silks and some tribal rugs.in between. Good luck in your search.
