Residents to approach PM over archaeological site

BANGKOK: -- Residents near the Ban Dong Lakhon archaeological site in Nakhon Nayok's Muang district yesterday said they would file a complaint to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha for assistance after some 46 villagers were affected by the Fine Arts Department's archaeological site territory expansion without being given any compensation.

Group representative Thatree Inyarit urged the government to issue remedial measures, as the villagers had legally obtained their land title deeds or land ownership documents and paid full land tax until present. He said the department should have held a public forum to see how the residents would be affected.

"Some families who had 4-5 rai of land now have nothing left to share among their children," he said, adding that their complaints to various agencies had not yielded any concrete solution. They will file a complaint to the premier via the Nakhon Nayok Army tomorrow during a talk at Wat Nong Thong Sai.

Thongchai Sakho, head of Archaeological Division at the Fine Arts Office 3, said the matter would be discussed by related agencies and villagers tomorrow.
