Thai Views on Abortion

I was talking with some friends about western versus eastern ideas of abortion, and someone asked me what the Thai view was. I thought about it and I had to admit--I had no idea.

Is there a Thai view on abortion? Is it legal in Thailand? Does it vary by region/religious belief?

As to personal views on it, the approx. 67 million Thai people do not all have the same opinion on this or anything else.

A friend got a miscarriage.

The hospital staff in CM were awful to her.

Later she called a Thai person to try to understand the situation.

Apparently, abortion being illegal here, many women resort to self aborting techniques, so she was suspected of having provoked the abortion and was treated like a criminal

They would not talk to her, she went to hospital in pain, not knowing what she had, and they never told her she had a miscarriage. Her Thai friend told her when the all thing was over.

Very scary experience
