Am looking at options including costs and time to go from Hua Hin to Phuket.

I am not adverse to long drives, but would like to see what all options are.

If you drive, go during the day. Driving this route at night is bloody death defying to say the least!

Deadcert nailed it. Driving will take you about 8 hours, and 1000 THB in fuel (ish).

Can get the government bus in about 10 hours. Total cost 240 baht last time i took it.

Train to Surat Thani and then a 4 hour bus transfer to Phuket isnt really worth doing.

Flight to Bangkok and then to Phuket, again isnt really wirth doing.

The bus may cost you a bit more. It cost me 240 baht to go from Hua Hin to Ranong last week

every night there are VIP busses that pick up in HuaHin at about midnight ... prices at over 800 ... you'll arrive in daylight. They can be booked from various travel agencies in town
