Chair Repair, Woven cane bottoms and backs

Featured Replies

I am trying to find someone who can re-cane the seats and backs in some old teak chairs. They are done using the hole to hole caning technique, unfortuntely the method requiring the most skill and time. The closest place I have been able to find is in Singapore. I would like to find something closer.I have read there are craftsmen who can do this in Chiang Mai but I have not been able to locate them.

Any help out there, guys?

There used to be a place good at that kind of thing, have not checked recently but it is probably still there.

Go North on the inside of the moat, the road turns West at Bikers Corner, about 30 meters after that turn on the left is the shop, just after a bicycle shop I think. They sell bamboo and rattan furniture and do good repairs.

Also the rattan shop on Chang Moi rd about 50m heading east on the left (the one on the corner.of the soi that goes to Karinthip)

And two doors further down is the same owner as one dante99 referred to.

I too have bought a lot of furniture from them including upholstery covers.

Most of their stock comes direct from the craftsmen at ban tawai.

If you ride down the back sois not the bus routes you can see them making things in the sheds and you can buy much cheaper.

Problem is you need to be here on the ground to ask; you cannot rely on the internet to find someone.

Thank you all for the information. Looks like a trip to Chiang Mai will be necessary. Long drive for me but worth the trouble if I can get these chair seats and backs rewoven. I don't know where Bikers Corner is located. Does any one happen to have gps coordinates?

North East inside corner of the moat. No gps needed.

Thank you, Dante99. I will look on google earth to see if I can find it. Could you tell me why it is called Biker's Corner? Do a lot of bikers hand out there?

Bar/Restaurant called Rider's Corner on the corner. My mistake calling it biker's corner. Yeh there are always a lot of Hell's Angels there raising hell as always. Definitely do not bring your old lady anywhere near there.
