December 1, 201411 yr Hello ! My name's Cachwir and I arrived in Chiang Mai 3 weeks ago, with my girlfriend. We're looking for some accomodation (house/condo/appartment) to rent in the mountain on the west of Chiang Mai (west of Mae rim/Samoeng) but we didn't find anything so far. We'd like to stay 1 month to avoid the smog (we want to take care of our lungs) for 6000 bahts (big) maximum, with a high speed internet connection and furnished. Do you think this is possible ? Because we've been searching on the internet for 2 entire days and it's very hard to find what we're looking for, as most of the agencies on the net, seem to have accomodations mostly in Muenang, Mae rim city and the south/east of Chiang Mai. Oh and we tried to go ask an agency in Muenang but it seemed worthless, because they didn't know anything. We're going to rent a car, to have a look by ourselves, as we don't know what else to do. If you know a not-too-expensive guest house in Samoeng, let me know ! Thanks for reading ! I'll be checking this topic a lot so answer if you've got any idea.
December 1, 201411 yr First read https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Samoeng Then, if you are driving there, read https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Samoeng_Loop Forest Guesthouse is funky, but very cheap.
December 2, 201411 yr I lived in Samoeng teaching for a year. Now I am in Chiang Mai. Very few farang live in Samoeng.
December 2, 201411 yr Isn't Samoeng just as polluted as CM in the smog season? Not very high up, & surrounded by burning?

December 2, 201411 yr The picture is of a furnished studio with AC, cable TV, and wi-fi inside a mountain resort walking distance from Banta, by the main road in the way to Puchifha Mountain and Chiang Kong from Chiang Mai, and one hour driving from Chiang Rai. Daily rent 400thb, Monthly rent 6000thb including coffee. Many local attractions and restaurants minutes away. Green Bus stop in Banta to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Khong (border crossing to Laos over the Mekong River) We also have big motel rooms with fan and private bathrooms in Bandu, 20 minutes from Chiang Rai for 200thb/day and 3000thb/month. Few blocks from the main road, the Rajabhat University, the Green VIP Bus stop, few minutes from the mountains, the Thermal Pools and Water Fall Park, and the Mae Fae Luang University and Doi Tung in the way to Mae Sai/Burma Border. The best air quality and weather on North Thailand, if do not mind cold mornings and nights. More info send me a message.

Well it certainly looked interesting to pass through maybe spend a night judging from the two sites. But I saw nothing there suggesting hi speed internet. Also was curious as to what month they were coming for? Chiang Mai at the out side only has bad smog for 3 months of the year. On another thread a poster mentioned his child had a problem with the smog but he only had to leave the area for 6 weeks.
December 2, 201411 yr Just for the record, during the year I spent in Samoeng there was no smoke or smog. The Internet there is on a par with that I have had living in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Chiang Mai. Not great, but OK (my Internet needs are mostly text-only).
December 4, 201411 yr Author Hi guys. Nevermind. I went to Samoeng for 1 night and it's way more far from Chiang Mai, than I though (I didn't spend 1 hour on the road but 3, just to go to Samoeng). I saw some smoke but not that much and it was beautiful. However, I think I'm going to look for a condo/house in the south of Chiang Mai, near the Mae Ping river or near the Central Airport Plaza. I've been looking on the internet but... nothing. I'd need to rent it for 1 month and for 8k bahts maximum. You guys have any ideas ?
December 4, 201411 yr It seems to me that you have not got a clue what you want .I tyied to help you on another thread ,but just got a confused response from you .You are the girl who also wanted to be near a place for Thai lessons ,right ?
December 5, 201411 yr Hi guys. Nevermind. I went to Samoeng for 1 night and it's way more far from Chiang Mai, than I though (I didn't spend 1 hour on the road but 3, just to go to Samoeng). Yes Samoeng has been getting farther from CM so quickly. Like it moves farther away everyday or two.

Damn, it's the second time someone tells me that. It mustn't be that false, then ha ha. But yes, I wanted to be near a place for Thai lessons. But the thing is, I'm not alone, we're two. And the more we discover things, the more we reconsider our thoughts. I'm sorry if it confuses you, though. :/

Sounds to me like the only thing you know and agree on is you want to be where you can get Thai lessons. I have no idea what you expect to get out of one month Thai lessons other than confused if you have no prior knowledge of the language. When you have reality figured out then ask. There is lot's of different opportunities here we just need some real direction. Like what month would help.
December 5, 201411 yr 1) samoeng pai etc etc all still get smoggy.. Tho pai might suit your needs outside that (have thai lessons, reasonable nature, internet, etc).. 2) you took 3 hours to get to Samoeng ?? Did you go via mae wang or something ??

December 5, 201411 yr Popular Post ^ Then you just didn't notice it. Which is not too strange, many people don't notice unless you point out the visibility with a picture of the same spot outside of the dry season. Most tourists even consider the weather to be great in March.. they just figure 'sunny and no rain == good'.
December 5, 201411 yr Author 2) you took 3 hours to get to Samoeng ?? Did you go via mae wang or something ?? Nope.

December 5, 201411 yr Maybe try Chiang Rai instead , more beautiful and less crowded. I am sure you will find a Thai language school there as well .
December 7, 201411 yr Author 2) you took 3 hours to get to Samoeng ?? Did you go via mae wang or something ?? Nope. Bicycle? Neither ! But we were in an old car that couldn't go further than 60 km/h. And we tried Chiang Rai. It was very nice but we're a bit afraid of being very near the spots where malaria mosquitoes are still many.
December 9, 201411 yr Seriously.. its like 45 kms from airport here to Samoeng center.. I know people who ride a pushbike who do it in 3 hours. If your not in some bad traffic its an hour and a slow car really shouldnt make much difference..
December 9, 201411 yr Sounds like dreamers to me.... If you can't look at google maps and see what distances are like then you're not trying very hard...
