New technique to turn decaying rice to safe and quality rice discovered

PICHIT: -- A rice miller in Phichit province has successfully turned decaying rice grains back to freshness with no smell but safe for consuming.

This could be an alternative for the government to store rice for a long period .

Mr Prinya Thammapornpilas, an operator of Jitsermchai rice mill in Phichit, said he has discovered an effective treatment method to turn rice grains stored for a long time and are decaying and smelly back to be good grains and eatable with safety for those who favour eating old rice grains.

Calling his technique an ozone treatment, he said he would put the smelly and decaying old rice grains into tanks.

The old rice in the tank will then be ventilated through air flow from fan to remove dust from the grains.

After finishing the first ventilation and fanning step, the old rice will be put into another tank for drying with ozone to increase oxygen in the grains for 20-30 minutes.

This step will help to eliminate the smell from grains.

The next step will allow air to flow through all the grains to eliminate the ozone smell.
This step will eliminate the smell and turn the old and smelly rice to freshness and safe for eating again.

He said his mill has a capacity to treat four tons of rice grains an hour at a cost of 800-1,000 baht per ton.

He said this treatment technique will be an alternative for the government to improve quality of huge rice stocks which are decaying before releasing them into the market.

Think I will put this investment oppurnity on a back burner for the fore see able future. The seemly happy old codger reminds me of a fellow who went by the name Blly Carter. He called his product billy beer.

  • I think this guy needs to stand close to the fans! Obviously the odour is effecting his brain, or is that decaying as well?

I wish for the inventor nothing else for his meals!

I thought Thailand already invent the solution to sell such rise for corrupt African countries in deep poverty, where the difference might be less noticed...

For myself, I rather stay with the non-decaying variety.

But happy for another fantastic Nobel winning Thai invention! No doubt it will place right to the level of the Ebola vaccine, or newly defined democracy....things what no one seen beyond but read about here!

cool. The smell is gone, but the SPORES and the mould are still in place.

If they proove me otherwise, I will give them all my years old rotten mouldy leather shoes for an Ozone treatment, and afterwards I will eat them publicly

News like these always make me remember the message of the former Hua Hin mayor, that they had invented a method to make crude oil again from used plastic bags.

Thailand's technology is only good for the ones who believe that they actually HAVE a technology invented by themselves that is even worth mentioning

Okay, let me get this straight:

He is removing the musty smell emanating from rotten rice through ozone treatment - a bit like the water or air purification process using ozone ions.

However, if I understand it right, the procedure does NOT roll back the rotting process.

All it does is eliminate the smell so the rotting rice can be sold at a higher price.

Isn't that called cheating?

Curry was "invented" so that rotten meat could be eaten -- why not the same for rice. Ventilating it with dubious amounts of Ozone is not going to do anything to the "List of Ingredients". After fermenting for a few months there's going to be a serious amount of fungal by-products in there. I wonder if it's been passed by the FDA ? Oh - of course I forgot -- rice is exempt,,,,, w00t.gif

Here's a better idea, instead of using the technique on rotten rice, why not try it out on senior RTP officers, and see if it really does stop the rot and decay !!!
