Concrete panel falls and kills one in Khon Kaen
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A lightweight concrete panel fell out of its place and hit three customers at CentralPlaza Khon Kaen yesterday, killing one and seriously injuring the other two.

The accident took place while the victims were waiting for a van at the department store's parking zone.

"The panel is about 2 metres wide and 2 metres long," Pol Colonel Supakorn Khamsingnork said in his capacity as the acting chief of the Muang Khon Kaen Police Station.

According to the police investigation, the victims dropped into the shopping plaza for lunch during a trip from Nakhon Ratchasima province to Sakhon Nakhon province.

Supakorn said forensic-science officials would carefully review evidence to determine whether the accident took place because of recklessness on the part of the shopping centre's management.

R.i.P to the fallen, another sad indictment of Thai building standards

Obviously no one will be found negligent, unless they can pin in on a foreigner or a low level employee.

A lightweight concrete panel ???

Obviously no one will be found negligent, unless they can pin in on a foreigner or a low level employee.

Find the damned Burmese who made the concrete panel and give the the death penalty.

By the way, why was the person who died wearing a bikini?

Don't she read newspapers about the danger of wearing bikini's?

TIC

RIP to de deceased and seppdy recovery to the injured people.

On the roads and pavements just about everything on wheels with an engine in Thailand is trying to kill you. Sh*t! Now you have to watch out for the buildings toow00t.gif !!!

I guess lightweight is relative when it comes to concrete panels. RIP and a speedy and full recovery to the two survivors.

One can only hope that those responsible are held accountable. whistling.gif

Not as heavy as some! 2mts x 2mts probably 100mm thick would weigh at least 1 tonne. Very sad but it does happen all over the world.

KHON KAEN: -- Central Pattana Company has issued a statement announcing its deep regrets over a recent accident at its shopping mall in Khon Kaen in which one customer was killed and two injured.

The company also said that it was willing and ready to pay compensation to the dead and injured victims.

In its statement, the company’s senior executive for public relations, Mr Sirirat Wajaraklert, explained that an unusual gust blew away a concrete slab which collapsed from the ceiling onto some customers, causing death to a female customer and injures to two others.

The dead victim was identified as Mrs Buakhao Jaithiang, 45.

If I was the family I would get a lawyer and sue their asses for 100 million...its a lawyer's dream case of wrongful death...

Concrete slab must have been fitted by burmese workers!!

A 500#-600# concrete panel dropping from the ceiling may be lightweight to an architect but not to anyone standing underneath it.

This is the second serious accident in as many days for Central group, both because of construction errors in recent completed stores.

When Central Festival Pattaya was constructed there was a whole topic here about the reinforcements they had to make to the columns shortly after the building was completed, of course the Thaier than Thai members all laughed it away as conspiracy theories.

I have such a feeling that Central is one big greedy business that cuts corners just to earn that very last Satang, and that we may hear more from this company in the not so distant future.
