Approval will be sought for Lipa Yai reservoir project on Samui Island

The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) and the Royal Irrigation Department will jointly push for the Cabinet endorsement of Lipa Yai (ลิปะใหญ่) Reservoir on Samui Island.

Mayor of Samui Island Warakorn Rattanarak (วรากร รัตนรักษ์) said the reservoir is needed to ensure enough water supplies for residents but its environment impact assessment (EIA) study has not yet been approved by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry. Mr. Warakorn said the project site is in a watershed area on a mountain.

He said the project is part of a plan to provide water sources for major tourism destinations in Thailand
