I'm here in Phuket on a single entry toursit visa. I just got it extended for an additional month. But before that month is through I have to do a visa run. Where is the best place to go? I've heard that in Ranong you can only get 1 month, but in Penang you get 3. Any thoughts?

Ranong is in Thailand, and cannot issue visas.

If you meant to cross from Ranong to Burma you would get a 1 month stamp on your return.

If you come down to Penang there is a Thai consulate and you can get a tourist visa which will allow you to stay 2 + 1 months

Or of course if you want to stay longer, apply for a double entry visa in Penang.

Ranong border crossing is used for 'border run' and make your 90d exit (for the ones having Non-Imm 1 year visa). You get stamped and that's it. No visa are issued at there.

Penang has a real consulate which issues new visa.
