  • Give it a month and all will be forgotten then business as usual. Why did they bother in the first place?

Exactly - thin edge of the wedge comes to mind. Question is - how long before back to normal. A month sounds about right.

  • Didn't last long, just another failed move by the dear leader.

And tourists who expect the deckchairs and vendors want their chairs and vendors. Not really hard to see why this happened. Demand is there so they need to supply.

Hope the deckchairs are back in place by mid Jan.

Good job to all who moaned and posted on various social media sites to voice out against the removal of these things.

It all sounds good but is 10% the thin edge of the wedge. Only time will tell if this is an organized plan

or if things will revert back to how they were. whistling.gif

Anyone on the ground in Patong able to confirm if the umbrellas are back yet?

Visited Patong and Karon last month and was pleasantly surprised how much better the beaches are. Not as good as in the 80s before they got filled with tourist junk but still a huge improvement over last year. If the authorities did something about the litter problem and banned jet skis, I'd be well happy.

"Governor Nisit Jansomwong announced the drafting of an interim plan that brings back Phuket beach vendors for the next three months." - where does the Governor get the authority to "officially" allow commercial operations to take place on land that is owned by The King of Thailand?

I believe the land in question does not belong to the King.

AFAIK, the King owns the "land" from the international boundary at sea, to the high tide watermark on the beaches. Not the entire beach.

It still should not give anyone the right to rent out public spaces including footpaths & if the local council is doing this then where is the money? BTW it's a rhetorical question.
