Telescope/ Astronomy Types.

I have finally, after two years, got my Celestron telescope fixed. I have spent every night for the past week in the garden looking skywards. However, I don’t think my garden is the ideal spot, as there is plenty of light pollution. Ideally I should be up a mountain somewhere. Back in the UK I would do just that. Here in Thailand I don’t feel as safe to be out late at night in a secluded spot. Plus my wife won’t let me. So, I am wondering if there are any astronomy clubs (doubtful) around Pattaya, or maybe anyone else with a scope, for me to buddy up with? Maybe I should start my own Astronomy club. I could even be the chairman. :o

Would love to hook up with some amateur astronomers in Thailand sometime when I'm there, though I rarely ever make it down to Pattaya. It's been many years since I last used my telescope which is much too massive to think about shipping to Thailand. Would have to purchase a new one there if I got back into it. Are there any good shops in Thailand that sell Celestron or other good quality compact telescopes for a reasonable price?

Celestron is available in Thailand. I think there are two places that sell them. Also meade and orion scopes are available in Thailand

Which stores sell good telescopes in Bangkok?

Naked eye seeing is good upcountry, I feel the humidity affects the image stability when using a telescope, added to the light escaping upwards from every soi light post. Talk to some wiser Thais (if you can find one) and learn about the Thai stellar folklore; Pleiades is known was the Seven Baby Chicken (Jet Jeab).

As Thais (generally) don't build houses on hills (due to respect and gov. regulations) getting high at night can be less than easy without going off the beaten track or parking up on a mountain road.
