I have picked up it is important do get this sorted immediately hence my post. Thanks in advance for any replies.
December 27, 201411 yr Yes. Your child is British by descent. Life will be easier if you, as father, is registered as father on the child's birth certificate.
December 27, 201411 yr Author Ok I will be registering as father, Thanks for the quick info, appreciated
December 28, 201411 yr First and foremost, you must ensure that the person at the hospital who is making the birth registration uses the correct translation of your name into Thai. If mistakes are made on the original birth certificate, these can go undetected until some time in the future like passport applications or ID cards where pedantic desk jockeys will argue that the spelling in incorrect. The best bet is to use the certified copy of your Affidavit of Freedom to Marry that was issued by the British Embassy and endorsed by the MFA. There's no real rush to get the UK passport unless you are planning a quick flit to the UK with the kid. I waited till my lad was about 18 months old before he got his first one and it is only valid for 5 years anyway.
December 28, 201411 yr Go to the British embassy, they've been through this and will give the forms you need. As a Canadian I had to get a certificate of Canadian Citizenship first, that's equivalent to a birth certificate for a child born outside the country. Again go to the embassy tell them your circumstanses and they give you a bundle of paperwork to be filled out Once I had citizenship cert the passport is a straight enough application, same as yours basically
December 28, 201411 yr Everything you need to know is in this thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/694440-getting-a-uk-passport-for-my-newborn-half-thai-child/
January 10, 201511 yr Hi mate just advice When u apply for a British passport for ur son don't forget add letter from ur wife saying there is no problems by her side to issue a British passport to(name of child........ )Stating that she is the MOTHER! Dated and signed! Only for this letter I have to wait and get new appointment after 3 months date I have applied! They are not requesting this when u apply but asking u 2-3 months later!! After 3 and half months still no sign of my daughter passport !! Good luck
January 10, 201511 yr Yes. Your child is British by descent. Unless ryanhull is himself British by descent; in which case the child wont be British. See the first part of British citizenship basics for an explanation of the difference between British by descent and British otherwise than by descent. Ryanhull, assuming that you are British otherwise than by descent, you will need your full birth certificate to show this; original, not a copy. If you do not have it, one can be obtained from the appropriate GRO, depending upon where you were born. See Order a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate. For how to apply for the child's passport, see Overseas British passport applications
January 10, 201511 yr i have not been asked to get my wife to write a letter stating that she is the mother and there will be no problems in issuing a passport...i did have to supply some additional information which they have had for more than 11 weeks in the UK...it's appalling really...my son is waiting to come to the UK and my wife has a 6 month visa from 1st December....I originaly made my child's first UK passport application in Bangkok almost 5 months ago!!! I got a standard email reply( you are lucky to get that even) this week stating that "we are dealing with your child's application but we are cannot speed up the process"!!! I have been ringing up the progress team every week since November. Cheers..
