BANGKOK, Dec 29 -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said Sunday his government is speeding solutions to the people's livelihood problems and he is confident that Thailand’s economy will improve in the year ahead.

Denying that the government plans to dissolve local administrative organisations, Gen Prayut said his government is now busy with finding ways for poor people to make a living and reducing the high cost of living for the people because he realises that most people are not happy with the rising cost of living.

“I personally believe that general economy will improve in 2015,” said Gen Prayut, adding that he is worried about low-income earners and that he is finding ways to assist them.

Touching on Article 44 of the current Constitution giving power to him as leader of the National Council for Peace and Order in taking action in every situation, Gen Prayut said he would exercise the power only when necessary and in constructive ways.

At present, Gen Prayut said, he has never thought of using it.

In another related development, spokeswoman Duangkamol Jiambutr said the Commerce Ministry has assigned provincial commerce ministry offices nationwide, especially in rice growing provinces, to persuade farmers to switch to growing organic rice whose price is now over Bt70 per kilogramme.

If carried out by farmers, the switch would match the government’s plan to improve the quality of Thai rice and would also help push up the prices of agricultural products in the country, Ms Duangkamol added. (MCOT online news)

The man is doing his best for his country.

Difficult times for him and Thailand.

But I am confident with the integrity and strength he possesses he will succeed in his vision to make Thailand a better place to live, for Thais and farangs alike.

Good idea.... helping to lower the cost of living by growing rice that will cost 70 Baht/kilo.... what a joker !

Either he is the smartest man alive, or the dumbest.

Time will tell.

So three days after been widely quoted as threatening to shut down elements of the press who were criticising him he is now saying he has not even thought about using section 44....

I love LOS, always optimistic even when they report a bad news. They say everything will be good next time. All these without any substantial data

Having been assured that the economy is really down and bad, I guess it can only get better.

Mind you with the dependency on exports and therefor foreign countries performance, we can only blame those blasted farang if the prediction turn out to be incorrect wink.png

Lower the currency price worldwide (again) like Australia is doing and things could improve.

So far roughly good job against the bad guys general.

Where did I read those words before??

Oh now I remember!! In your previous post about the Master.

For starters remove martial law, that is only in place because of the generals personal paranoia!!

That might at least bring some tourists back!

Costas. some times I wonder if you are just baiting, or are you really that thick??

You can see from his face the pressures are getting to him.

And there is no way the economy will improve next year. P---ing in the wind.

"You can see from his face the pressures are getting to him."

His rebate-coupon for adult diapers had expired before he reached the check-out at Tesco!!

Who was it who had a go at me for claiming that thailand was just fine despite dropping FDI.

That is first hand bricks mortar, machinery, and investment that goes straight to the bottom line of GDP. Its been dropping since 2012 in line with the dumb protests and then the coup to follow.

It dropped again last year. So with tourism falling, exports struggling and FDI dropping there is a big minus to overcome to get to 4% growth.

I reckon 1.5% again next year. Why should it be higher?

If he refers growth in Thailand, it will surely be better than in 2014.

If he refers to world GDP growth, it should be a little better than in 2014 (2.9 against 2.5 in 2014) with some risks.

I really wouldn't be so confident. I don't see investment, domestic consumption or exports jumping. So where will the growth come from?

Domestic investment? Gonna have to be very big.

One assumes you are being ironic. The man engineered a situation that allowed him to take control on behalf of his masters - it has nothing to do with improving Thailand. He's then made a dogs breakfast of the economy, international relations and just about everything else. He's now tinkering with the term "democracy" to allow control of the nation by a minority to benefit that minority in perpetuity.

Dogs breakfast of the economy? One must assume your being ironic right. My facts override your beliefs. The SET couldn't be stronger under the Junta? Look at the graph here. Look at Thailand inflation rate here. That is going in the right direction as well. Look at the GDP growth ratehere. Thats looking pretty good as well heay. Consumer confidence has gone through the roof here. Couple that with consumer spending here that is looking very health. Business confidence is plodding along nicely here. In fact if you look at all the economic indicators they all started going down hill when the PTP tried to introduce the amnesty bill (against the majorities wishes) and unsurprising started to recover when the Junta took power.

Engineered a situation to allow him to take control? So the PTP and the UDD are in on the conspiracy too then. Prayut told them to all stay in the room on the 22nd of May until they sorted their issues out after the UDD terrorists did daily attacks. They couldn't resolve their issues so Prayut did. Not a single bullet fired and not a single life lost to terrorists since that day in Bangkok. He engineered something alright. A peaceful majority driven restoration to peace and stability. Unless of course the majority prefer daily terrorist attacks and crimines committed with impunity and being ignored and held in contempt after elections. The 2011 PTP victory does not allow for this in how their popularity is gauged now. The 200 or so polls and the failed 2014 election does.

Tinkering with democracy? You bet ya. So democracy continues after elections not ceases. He understands that democratic elections to vote in undemocratic people is not very democratic. That is why reform is needed.

There are gov-gov rice deals, increased productivity in foreign-owned factories, and a small set of other reasons for optimism.

The economy is not doing very well right now, so a small increase is not completely unreasonable.

There are a lot of worldwide negatives that are dangerous -- the ruble tumbling (if you believe many people it is partly a Ukraine retaliation). The pull backs in deficit spending to limit the national debt in the EU, UK and USA...

It's going to be a difficult year all around, but there is nothing wrong with hoping things will improve. What could the PM say to his people? "Things are bad and getting worse. Stockpile rice and pray to Buddha."

Uh, that wouldn't help things at all!!

The failed rice scheme is being paid out, the banks backed the notes (and of course they expect to be repaid). It is generally negative, but not a threat of collapse or a crash at SET.

I think it is wait and see for Thailand. The PM is making an effort to tackle corruption and if he can really make a difference he will be remembered as the man who cleaned up Thailand. He will truly be a great man !!! If he fails he will be forgotten in a week after he looses power.

Not quite what he said 2 months ago, when he said everybody in Thailand is happy! Vomit smiley.

The guy is onto a quick loser.... he hasn't got a clue.

Also, why is his 'minder' wearing the same tie? New regulation? giggle.gif

No loss of life to terrorists since the Junta took over? Care to look at the whole map of Thailand and in particular the South where deaths have been happening weekly at the hands of Muslim terrorists!!

Complete disingenuous remarks to the victims of southern Terrorism that continue to happen on a weekly basis but unless they're UDD they are not classed as terrorists?

You make me sick !!

Seems to me she knows nothing of organic farming. The rice paddies will be poisoned with existing pesticides etc (the main culprit being arsenic) and the farmers cannot grow "organically" on that land until it has completed a three year monitored conversion period before the land can have organic status. So.... great idea but what do they do for 3 years?
