Is there any shortcut from Phuket Town to Rawai post office that doesn't go through Chalong Circle?

Is there any shortcut from Phuket Town to Rawai post office that doesn't go through Chalong Circle? Without having to go through Kata/Karon?

Just before Chalong Circle, I can turn right into Home Villa Pro and then out on the road towards Kata/Karon. From there, can I go on small roads to Rawai post office without having to pass Chalong Circle?

Chalong Circle was a right pain when I lived there. Imagine it's worse now.

I think there's a route someway around the back of the Green Man somewhere, but if the road is open at Chalong marina now, might be able to cut around there... going off Chao Fa East Rd and then along Romutit. See below:

Both ways are possible, the short cut behind Kanaeng is really only good on a motorbike, a lot of small streets and if you take the wrong way its hard to do 3 point turns.

The other way is at the base of the hill going towards Kata.

There is some Korean Gem joint on the left, then its just after that. The Soi used to house the Phuket Stunt Show and also I still think it houses the Irish Consulate. When you get down to the Wichet Road end of that Soi, it spits you out just after the Rawaii School and before the post office.

I really cant wait for the powers that be to build a tunnel through that god forsaken part of the world. All the dive shops and bars in Soi Sunrise will probably go broke in the process though.

If coming from Phuket Town, get onto Chao Fah Road West.

Just before you get to Villa and HomePro, take a right turn (Soi Anuson). This will take you around the Villa Mart complex and comes out on Patak Road going to Kata.

After the road bears left whilst going up the hill, turn left just before the road bears right going up the hill.

This takes you back down and the road comes out on Viset Road about a 100 mtrs from the Rawai PO.

I wouldn't exactly call this a shortcut! Quicker to negotiate the Circle.

Exactly.

The circle really has not been much of a problem so far this season. At the moment it is busy, but that will be finished next week, and only coming from Rawai it can be a real pain. Just avoid going from Rawai to the other side of the circle on a Friday afternoon.

True enough, but, that's the only way without using the circle.

Ok, I'll try both routes see which one is easiest. Doesn't matter if it takes 10 minutes longer if I can avoid Chalong Circle.

That makes no sense unless you are trying to avoid the fuzz.

So basically the thread should be about long cut suggestions.

"turn left just before the road bears right going up the hill"

That's soi Suksan. Have you been down there lately from Patak road? It's more like a series of pot-holes joined together by the occasional concrete.

But you're right - it's the only alternative, and well known to the commuter vans.

I have no need. I ride my Honda Cubs which are the skinniest motorbikes on the island.

I can always go straight to the circle without stopping by either going up the left hand-side of all the stationary cars, or between the two columns.

I can go where even Honda Dreams fear to tread...smile.png

As long as you leave my wing mirrors alone...

The problem with going down that road in a pickup is that you don't know whether to straddle the pot-holes or drive completely around them.

But one of them will always get me facepalm.gif

So I prefer to go to the circle. smile.png
