NONTHABURI: -- A well-known provincial councillor and property developer was shot and seriously wounded by a lone gunman while he was about to enter his office in Bang Bua Thong district of Nonthaburi province on Wednesday night.

The councillor and property tycoon was identified as Mr Phairoj Sukchan, 51, owner of Bua Thong Property Co.

Police said CCTV footage from his office showed a man wearing a crash helmet walked towards the councillor at about 7 pm while he was about to enter his office.

The gunman fired one shot on the back of the victim’s head and escaped in a motorcycle parked nearby towards Kanchanapisek road.

Police gave two motives for the murder, business conflict and local politics.

He was pronounced out of danger last night but still in serious condition.

Guess once your dead, you are pretty much out of danger. But it is still a serious condition to be in.

Property Development a dangerous profession in Thailand,

I can never understand why the police come up with a motive,

after a few minutes, they should keep an open mind, until they

investigate,BUT maybe thats expecting too much, look at how

many suspicious deaths are just quickly solved as suicides.

Yes, the usual rush to say something but ONLY 2 motives given whereas the BIB usually list multiple motives as one of them is bound to be correct.

For once a love affair hasn't been mentioned.

The Police usually give the motive when they know the answer already cos they were involved in some way.

Indeed, a very fine example of Thainess.

Police has to understand that a 'murder' needs a dead body playing a major role in the situation. This is in fact an attempted murder. Once the police has digested and internalized, if not fully understood this trivial concept, they can once more use their two brain cells to come up with motives. happy hunting

year of Thainess. a very safe year to travel for the tourists.

Discover Thainess is a real "hit" as it seems...

Must have been a Burmese, Thais would never do such things, letting alone detroying each other... The Fuehr... ahemm, Dicta... ahemm, sorry, got something in my throat... PM has said it!!!

Property Developer seems to be a dangerous job in Thailand. Probably it is because most of them scam the customers and also the workers who build the houses. A friend of mine bought a house in a property in Isaan 3 years ago. He and around 30 others house owner paid 4 to 5mio THB per house but the promised pool and fitness club and sauna and tennis court were never built!! One guy in the village bought his house for 5 mio and added around 5 mio extra for modifications on his house and property. So 10 mio THB for no Pool, Fitness or anything expect a security guard who sleep the whole day.... as far as I heared the developer only shows ups in the deep night sometimes......

Spot on. This happens the world over of course. Best place for a property developer to be - on the local council. But Thailand being Thailand, the degree of 'being screwed' by these people is likely to be somewhat higher than many other places. Can't really blame the perp for his frustration.

Always get a chuckle from the posters when a Thai dies.......everyone has an opinion and generally takes the piss.

Imagine if this was a Councillor in your home town...whoo hoo lets start the commentary.CIA, FBI SAS etc

When some deadbeat farang goes belly up the regular posters start the RIP crap and try to blame Thailand because another loser goes down.

Khun Pairoj being the most jovial neighbor at our house in Kunalai Village (he built it actually!) ; that was a bit of a shock to hear that news this morning from some mutual friends who phoned us.

Cross finger that he will get better soon and that his life is not in jeopardy.

He was pronounced out of danger last night but still in serious condition.

Although I am sure he got the message...he is not out of danger...it is still a serious condition...his life has changed forever...will be constantly looking over his back and fear for his life and that of his family...

Thainess rules!

and they have ruled out suicide....

It's pretty much a lawless district, Bang Buathong Village, the villagers had to organize themselves and start a neighborhood watch, this was in 2009, when things had already been getting out of hand for a while, and with a total of three police men, it wasn't getting any better. Local government, red, controlled the money. It took over ten years to finally do something about the ever deteriorating condition of the streets, sewage system. It still couldn't prevent it from flooding in Oct. 2011 though. This lasted over 2 months with 160 - 200 cm standing water inside the houses. 10 people were found dead, floating inside their homes - electrocuted - because the local government had neglected to shut down the electricity - Nuff said
