Pregnant Lao girl - can she extend her stay?

Featured Replies

My Laotian girlfriend is 8 months pregnant. Up to now she's been doing her monthly border runs (from Pattaya) to Cambodia and gets stamped in for another 30 days. Her doctor (at Pattaya Memorial) has now advised her not to do any more border runs until after the baby is born, so, can she get an extension from Immigration at Jomtien instead? She needs to do a border run before 31 January. Her doctor can provide a letter if necessary although she is very visibly pregnant.

An extension for pregnancy is often done at immigration under the clause for medical treatment of the police order.

You should check with immigration in Jomtien to see what they require. They have forms that the doctor will have to sign.

Medical extension with medical certificate should not be a problem.

But she will need the medical certificate which very clearly states that she is not allowed to travel due to her pregnancy and until when she is not allowed to travel.

Phuket will provide this medical extension only if she is over 7 months pregnant, or at a earlier stage in special circumstances.
