Hi All,

If you want to have a discussion about the pros & cons of meds for ADHD and or other psychiatric/behavioral issues, feel free to start a new thread to do so.

What I want to know is if any of you guys has and ADHD kid or kids prescribed Ritalin or similar med. The sustained release Ritalin LA and other similar slow-acting versions of these drugs are highly preferable to the first editions which need to be taken at least twice a day have a "seesaw" effect. The sustained release versions (of any drug) are unfortunately probably more costly.

Anyway, they don't have them at the gov hospital pharmacy in Khon Kaen. Does anyone have kids using these meds and has anyone found the sustained release versions available?

Feel free to PM me if you don't care to discuss it publicly.

Thanks, lah!

Concerta brand is extended release.

Has to be gotten at a hospital pharmacy as it is a strictly controlled substance.

As you have already struck out with the govt hosp in KK, could try KK Ram. Otherwise may have to come to Bkk.

Thanks Sheryl. Just doing due diligence before mom's next appointment with prescribing physician at gov hospital. Regardless of one's feeling about these drugs, a missed dose (which happens sometimes) causes headaches and a rebound effect of the ADHD symptoms, sometimes worse than have no meds at all.

I wonder if the ADHD kids in Thailand schools are sophisticated enough to deliberately miss a dose so they can sell it or trade it to other kids?

Thanks, Sheryl.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I presume that the prescribing physician will know if and where these sustained release meds are available, and even if they are available, may have some reason for preferring to to prescribe them rather than the standard versions. We are just trying to do some reconnaissance prior to the regularly scheduled appointment next month.

But my questions were. I'll take the responses so far as "no."

Does anyone have kids using these meds and has anyone found the sustained release versions available?

Thanks, lah!
