Aussie & Brit Pensions

Featured Replies

As a senior Aussie pensioner plus a Brit part pension, would my wife be entitled to anything if i was married to a Thai, and would she get anything if i passed away.

If you were married to a Thai and she never lived in AU...nothing, but be warned if your thinking of marrying a Thai woman still young enough to work centrelink will cut your pension.

The UK stopped this a few years ago, the wife would have to earn her own pension now

"would she get anything if i passed away"- the word 'if' betrays an admirable optimism.

Your wife might be eligible for a 52 - week Bereavement Allowance as outlined here:-

https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-allowance/eligibility

Whether or not she's eligible for that, she should be able to claim the one-off Bereavement Payment:-

https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-payment/overview

The relevant application form, mostly filled in, is in my safe along with my will and other paperwork ready for 'if' I pass away.

The word "if" ..............If only certain posters could resist their feeble attempts to pull other posters apart with scorn and often belittlement, when that person is only asking a simple question of interest, it would be admirable indeed. rolleyes.gif
