Ubon Hash House Harriers - February Run at Mun-Chi Rivers Confluence - Saturday 7th February 3.00pm

Still a great time of year to be running/walking in the late afternoon on the first Saturday of the month.
You know by now that I am a bit partial to setting runs that take in the River Mun. You know by know that I wax lyrical about its scenic beauty and indeed there are some great stretches like Had Khu Deua, Non Gin Pen and the bit just south of the Ring Road West bridge. Well I think I've found an even lovelier spot on the Mun. It amazes me that the place is semi-deserted apart from the locals (good ole tourist authorities in Thailand, not an <deleted> clue!). Somebody must have thought it was lovely here some time ago as it has the traditional riverside promenade and places to seek shelter and make a BBQ. Also traditional is the fact that these are a bit dilapidated and unloved.
This one is a bit further out from Ubon than our normal runs (other than when we are outstationed at eg Ghettomaster's place. It will probably take 30 minutes to get there form N-Joy so please make sure you arrive promptly at N-Joy bar at 3pm. I'll be bringing my German BIL and my (English sister) along, so we will need another couple of hashers with cars to transport the pack to the run site. For those who do not know N-Joy a map is attached below.

The run/walk will start at 3.30pm prompt. I have not posted a map of the location - it's a little bit complex to find (must get my head round Sat Nav) but can provide a map to anyone who wants to go direct to the run. PM me if you are looking at Thai Visa, or e-mail me if you are looking at my e-mail message. Anyone coming from SiSaket direction or from the South might find it advantageous to cut out the N-Joy meet up at the front-end of the hash.
Beer stop (of course) on the run/walk - free beers* More free beers and circle on site afterwards and some free snacks back at N-Joy for those seeking further libation.
I promise you the run will be worth the extra minutes to get there - two rivers (one visited three times on the run), a nice inland lake, some good shaded lanes and some off-road. Two traditional Ubon fishing villages. Great view from the circle location. You'll love adding another hash spot with which to later impress your friends and relatives about your knowledge of Ubon environs!
Finally - many thanks to Viking Ghettomaster for a great run and overnight at Suan Loong Daeng earlier this month. Noi (of Noi and Mike) revealed she had finally been granted her settlement Aussie visa and so will be joining hubby permanently in Oz. We wish them and FRB son Jay well and hope to see them both again. We named Noi "Gold Digger" in celebration (going to Perth, land of mining and gold - gettit? - not what you thought!)

* As in, free beers included in your hash fee.

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few experienced hashers and wanabee enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. Non-running social members who like to drink beer rather than take any exercise are welcome provided they pay the hash fee and don't drink all the beer while the rest of us are out on trail!

A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais and under-17's - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.
Caution - run fees have to go up soon but I'll give it one more shot at old prices
