Can we get back to the serious stuff please chaps ;) .

Anyway, i will be really surprised if we win this weekend, i can't see Bolton losing 2 home games on the trot plus i fear a hangover from our midweek party :(.

I think you might be right and i so what a good time to bring in some players hungry to get back in the first team. Play Krancjar and Sandro. Start Pav upfront. i would say Bentley but is his heart in it for Spurs anymore? If he does'nt play Krancjar Rednapp should do the decent thing and sell him as he's far too good to be being overlooked the way he has been.

VDV has been having problems with calf and hamstrings and it might be an idea to rest him.

Then we have a home fixture against Sunderland on Tuesday. Busy times - good job we have a big squad these days. It would be really nice to take six points over the next four days, but probably unlikely.

I see a new trend starting with this Mob, i see amongst it amongst others too on other Forums & on my Facebook..

What theyr'e doing now, the more vocal one's, like the Silverback's or " dominant Male's of their Clan's within the Clan, is calling for all joking & banter to stop & " focus on the Football "..:D

I swear, i've noticed this behavious in a few of them..:D

They are all one this Mob, all interlinked somehow in their genetics, without a doubt..:D

Just give the ball to Bale. :D

On a more serious note for singhy's benefit of course we should rest the lad at the weekend play Bentley with Bale snarling at him from the touchline. Should be enough motivation. :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with joking and banter provided it is done in a civilised and intelligent manner and kept within bounds. What this old geezer and many others object to, is gratuitous bad language and OTT abuse, just for the sake of hurling abuse, with no justification based on fact.

I note with pleasure that your recent posts seem to have taken these 'guidelines' to heart. Well done. :)

There must be so few of you out there who can recall a time when we would go to a (then) first division match - lets say for the sake of argument spurs v Liverpool and the crowds would not be segregated, we would joke and banter with each other, and both sets of supporters would applaud good play by the opposing team. There was virtually no bad language and parents wouldn't have any qualms about taking their kids with them.(Or indeed let them go alone, as I did) Violence and hooliganism was virtually unknown, and after the match we would all make our way from White Heart Lane in peace and safety, with the odd bit of light banter between the supporters as we trudged down the paths, tightly packed together, towards the main road.

I first started going to Spurs when I was around 8 years old (1954) without any parental supervision and continued to attend matches through my teen years and into my 20's. Many of my friends supported rival teams such as West ham and Arsenal and I also went with them to those home matches and others around London. I well remember with pride watching Bobby More, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters in their prime. I also went with mates who were Arsenal supporters and watched them win the league cup final in the 60's. We all cheered and celebrated afterwards when they won.

It was a different era and things were so different and, I regret to say, so much more civilised.

The rise of hooliganism in English Football for me became a complete turn-off and I stopped going to matches and my interest in Spurs and football in general waned considerably. To me the Heysel disaster, which was the result of serious rioting by English supporters, was the nadir of our football shame and totally turned me off watching any games, even in TV, for years.

What people like Mr Singh do not seem to appreciate is that the use of foul language and gratuitous invective in these friendly forums which have been set up for supporters to discuss the weekly fortunes of their teams only incites people to uncontrolled rage which, on occasion, may fuel yet more violence on the terraces.

Anyway, I am pleased to see that a better tone now seems to prevail and long may it continue to do so.

Thanks Mum, glad i now get your seal of approval..

" What peope like Mr Singh fail to realise .......... " blah blah blah...Bwah...

I don't fail to realise much Fella/Luv thank you very much & i think your writing complete tripe as per usual about Heysel which you obviously know very little about, cheering on Arsenal winning the League Cup & you all celebrating afterwards when they won ( i find that absolutely Alien & i'm sure i'm not alone ) & insinuating that i am inciting Terrace Warfare is quite simply absurd & absolute tripe..

Absolutely ludicrous in fact..

It's all about the context my Whale Friend, all about context.

It's hardly if i have the same mouth as Henry standing on the sidelines is it, f*ing & blinding every 2 mins..

& i'll apologies to you on behalf of every Adult on the Planet that my upset you with a swearword every now & then.

It must be wonderful in your little T*ttigham & part time Arsenal Cocoon you live in, make peace not War & all that..

Then, back in the real World................

PS : It's " Moore " by the way, Bobby Moore..

All that Mr Singh does is confirm the sheer hopelessness of so many of the younger generation of football supporters. Even to this day I enjoy a joke and banter with my fellow 'oldies' on the teams we all support and there is never a swear word or a nasty epithet to be heard and we congratulate each other if our team does well and commiserate when they lose.

I just feel sorry for the likes of Mr Singh who are so wrapped up in the modern day hatred of rival supporters and their teams, be it on the terrace or on an internet forum that they cannot see that their thoughts and actions are so poisonous and anti social, and do incite people to violence. I never said that Mr Singh was one of them, but he may well incite some of those who read his more incendiary comments, which are totally unnecessary.

As for Heysel, I watched with horror as it unfolded live on our TV screens.

The Heysel Stadium disaster occurred on 29 May 1985 when a masonry wall failed then collapsed under the pressure of escaping fans in the Heysel Stadium in Brussels, as a result of rioting before the start of the 1985 European Cup Final. 39 people died, 32 of them Juventus fans, and 600 were injured.

Approximately one hour before the Liverpool-Juventus final was due to kick off, a large group of Liverpool fans breached a fence separating them from rival Juventus fans. The Juventus fans ran back and away from the threat into a concrete retaining wall. Fans already seated near the wall were crushed; eventually the wall collapsed. Many people climbed over to safety, but many others died or were badly injured

Hooliganism in England and Europe had already reached a totally unacceptable level at the time of this tragedy. I'm not apportioning blame, just stating that without the hooligans - on both sides, this tragedy would never have happened.

I just wish Mr Singh would grow up and behave like a responsible adult. But I guess I am "pissing in the wind...." (He may understand that)

Back to Spurs.......

(I'll stop if he does)

Where's stevie when you need him RE Heysel..

Of course many Scousers were completely outrageous in their behaviour but to put the balme squarely on them given what happened with Italian Clubs ove rthe previous coupel of Seasons with them, is grossly unfair..

Can we have a Poll or something if i'm nasty like he says i am ??

I'm actually quite offended by being called nasty come to think of it & i don't think i am..

Stop laughing then singhy. :P

On a serious note as alfie will be here shortly no doubt the issue of football hooliganism and crowd trouble/ overcrowding goes way back.

You will remember the tragedy at Ibrox Mobi which wasn't helped by stewarding or the fans it was just terrible misfortune. Same to an extent with Hillsborough. No one meant for people to die on both those occasions. The Heysel tragedy conditions were set by bungling officials yes those involved must take blame yet it could and should have been avoided in the first place.

Football violence is rare now certainly inside grounds and what happens outside is no different to the violence you might see up and down the country in the '60's anyway.

I don't really get your point Mobi and I don't for a minute believe young men in the 50's didn't find some similar reason to have a scrap.

To Mobi and anyone else. You do know there is an ignore function? :whistling:

But Jock if we all put singhy on ignore the West Ham Thread might disappear forever! :D

:whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

I thought it had. :ermm:

Wheres the love guys cos i'm not feeling it. :(:crying:

If anyone is interested it looks like Defoe will be back for the Blackburn game. VDV and Lennon miss tonights game, so it looks like Bentley will be playing.

I have rather large concerns about the make up of tonights team. Redknapp has an oppotunity to try out something new for this match but i wonder if he'll take it.

Hope he leaves the team announcement till the last seconds as they will be spending way too much time focusing on Bale. Perhaps its best to leave him out for the start as i think he'll get clattered.

Anyway, thats the football out of the way, so, as you were ladies.........:D

Its great news on Defoe coming back earlier than we'd hoped. I reckon 'Arry will start with two up front today Crouch and Pav Sandro in Huddlestone rested along with VDV only question is Modric or Krancjar in the middle Bentley should start as well. Totally agree regarding Bale he's definitely gonna get a kick early on if he starts.

Keep him and VDV on the bench for an impact in the second half......ahh the luxury! B)

EDIT: Missed that carmine is VDV out for sure?

Yes, he's definately out.

I think he will play Hudd. This guys become so important to us, and although Modric was outstanding against Inter, Hudd has been by far our most effective playmaker. He'll probably put Sandro alongside him. (Thats a lot better than Jenas mincing about and falling over.)

The really interesting one is whether he play Kranjcar. I'll be really disappointed in the manager if this guy does'nt get a game today.

Mate, there are times in life when people just don't get you. By you, i mean all of us. On the internet, it happens more often than usual: Misunderstandings. Things taken the wrong way. Jokes read as insults. Tongue in cheek taken as serious. Friendly jibe considered nasty barb.

Anyone who reads your comments regularly, knows where you are coming from.

I reckon he's only playing Jenas to try and get some interest so we can flog him in January. Trouble is ya can't flog a dead horse. :(

Still plenty of options in midfield and sitting fifth in spite of our early injuries I'm feeling quite confident of a decent run till Christmas

now....barring further injuries of course.

Dawson is back towards the end of the month, but frankly, with the way Gallas and Kaboul played againsr Inter its not quite as urgent. They were very impressive. (One things for certain. There has to be some sort of a resolve with the Woodgate/King situation.) Dos Santos and Keane should both be off in January. Not sure about JJ...mind you, i never have been. He's been playing resonably well but i suppose its a case of if we get a decent offer.

I hear whispers the scammer England international defender might be on the cards for January.....if there's enough cash left after buying a striker that is.

Amongst you myriad faults, it seems that you suffer from serious learning difficulties. Where did I say I blamed the Scousers? here is what I wrote:

I'm not apportioning blame, just stating that without the hooligans - on both sides, this tragedy would never have happened.

You are so quick to spew out barely legible drivel, that you don't even bother to make sure your argument makes sense. It's about what we have come to expect, I suppose....

As for writing your nasty comments. Well anyone is very welcome to go back in this thread and see the kind abusive garbage you used to post. (I believe some of it was so filthy it was deleted).I objected before, and I believe you were given a holiday for your efforts so it is not only me that has trouble with your tone and choice of language.

then more recently, I objected again, and once more you toned down your choice of wording.

I was quite prepared to let it go at that, but as soon as I make a totally innocuous post, the first since our last little spat, you decide to come after me.

Well I may be 64 but I've eaten cowards like you before breakfast and there is no way I will let you get away with your snide remarks which were made without any provocation on my part.

The way you are going, If you are still able to piss anywhere without a bag when you are my age, it will be bloody miracle.

Sorry mate but on this you are wrong. Ask anyone who went to football in the fifties and early part of the sixties. I personally never saw any violence whatsoever, and I was a kid for much of that time. As I have already written, we all mixed together and there was very little swearing, let alone anything more aggressive - either during the match or afterwards. I doubt if there was more than a couple of mounted police at any game, and they never had anything to do.

I'm not sure when it all started - maybe the mid sixties when England started to 'swing". No doubt a bit of research would tell us.

A different era - long gone and never to return.

I agree there is much less violence these days, but you only have to listen to 'phone ins' on BBC radio to know that there is still a hard core of hooligans just raring for a fight, and if there was slightest relaxation in policing, we would be right back to where we were in the 80's in no time flat.

For me the level of abuse and bad language during a football match shows a decline in the standards of public morality and is to be deplored.

Yes, I know, I'm just a grumpy old fart :D

In adult company, i have no problem with "colourful" langauge. I consider everyone here adult, although some perhaps borderline?! Joking.

In places where there are kids, i totally agree. Makes me cringe when i see parents f'ing and blinding in front of the nippers. Sad.
