Police beef up operations against prostitution in entertainment venues

decriminalize it,legalize it,regular health checks, and if done on a voluntary base not out of poverty or forced so bee it...and hold those dam'n boys accountable for their offsprings...

How would you judge who was forced into prostitution , Is pressure from family to earn money not forced, Thai logic is that you take care of your parents,

There might be economic and family pressure but equating it with forced trafficking is ridiculous.

Hope they bust the Eden club on Sukhumvit soi 7/1, that really is a place that needs closing down.

Got ripped off there or something...

My only beef is if the ladies are forced to do it.

Many do it by choice and a lot more through necessity, or more to the point it is a easy job, just lay there, but they are not forced to do it.

If the good General really wants to do something about it, introduce social welfare for the poor and make absent fathers pay for up keep for their offspring's.

This is to stamp out the competition ('illegal' venues). The sun will stop burning long before the forced cessation of prostitution in these lands. Or is it April 1st already?

Well, I was debating whether to go out tonight or stay at home. It looks like I will have to go out to see if this is implemented.

It is a hard life but someone has to do it!

A perfect play to find another revenue source for tea money and paste on a patina of moralism to add to the charade. Business as usual.

Patina of moralism to satisfy the Western World - particularly America - me thinks.

I just don't understand why they don't let people do what they want to do - so long as it does no harm to anybody else.

Porn movies are a good example of this - they are widely available and depict just about every act imaginable. People are now bored with it. The people who need to be protected are the people who are unable to protect themselves - children for example. Child exploitation is disgusting and any person committing such a crime should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Would not surprise me to see some action against such places as nana now with the exposure of the recent murder and the suspect on the run....snuck away from under noses....loss face much....so lets go clamp down on those places that forced us to lose face much...

Western man goes to massage establishment. Selects masseuse and gets massage. Masseuse asks "You want special?" Man says yes (no way to prove his intention by saying yes). Man receives intimate massage. All done, man tips masseuse for massage. Is this paying for prostitution act or tipping a masseuse for massage?

Same as above, but man says upon departure, "Here, use this 1000 to buy your baby some clothes." Is that paying for a sex act or is it a gift?

Woman meets man at bar; the two go to hotel and have intimate sexual actions, together and consensual. Man gives woman money for taxi upon her departure? Is that prostitution by Thai law?

P.S. Chinese medicine includes massage of male genitals as therapeutic and very beneficial for good health. Is therapeutic massage (paid for) prostitution in Thailand?

As i have stated how do you define forced, Is not Psychological pressure classed as forced. It would maybe better to go after the abuser, the sex tourists the perverts. hit them hard with life imprisonment. for sex crimes against abused people.

BIB have hardened their attitude, stiffened their resolve and inserted themselves into prostitution rings. Things could get messy. But I can't see a happy ending from this.

Their incursions could get hairy if they're unable to delay their excitement. I hope they have the resolve to pull out in time if the pressure get's too intense.

Mmmmh.... not that easy, there are prerequisites for that.

First, you must survive another 40 years. Second, survive in a good physical condition. Third, your preferences must not change - ie. get as old as a kwai, but beware of getting wise ...

To answer your questions: No, none of what you describe is illegal in Thailand, but then neither is the act of prostitution!

I do not believe for a moment that this is actually going to happen on a broad scale...

This is window dressing to appear to be putting a halt to human trafficking...

If they were serious about this...hundreds of thousands of Thais would likely become poorer over night...

While prostitution may be illegal in Thailand, there is a big loophole in how Thailand defines prostitution:

"prostitution" means sexual intercourse, or any other act, or the commission of any other act in order to gratify the sexual desire of another person in a promiscuous manner in return for money or any other benefit, irrespective of whether the person who accepts the act and the person who commits the act are of the same sex or not;"

Without the part in red, in Thailand's legal eyes it would be prostitution just for the benefit of not satisfying being horny. Well that is my take being from the US where how a law is worded is often more important than the intent which I assume when they say benefit it is to mean material or monetary benefit.

At last! Indisputable evidence that the law - at least on prostitution in Thailand - is an ass. The question is:whose, and were they being paid for promiscuously making it available?

Seriously, this is just what the Land of Smiles needs to put the final nail in the coffin of what remains of their tourist industry.

This has nothing to do with prostitution per se. It is the continuing crackdown upon sources of revenue for Thaksin's political faction. Thaksin was a former policeman, has/had very strong connections to the Royal Thai Police, and the police are traditionally the group that runs many of the Thai brothels, either directly or indirectly.

Since when does anyone take anything the RTP say seriously ? cheesy.gif

Its more likely to be a message from the RTP that kickback rates are going to increase for those without the licence.
