Phuket Jet-ski scammers shut down

Featured Replies

If the authorities are serious about fixing this problem (we all know they are NOT) all they have to do is make it mandatory that all jet ski operators (thieves) post signs saying these jet skis are covered by insurance, and in the event of an accident or damage, your maximum liability is 15,000 baht. Problem solved. The fact that this problem has gone on for all these years, and millions of baht are being overcharged every month, means the authorities have little to no interest in resolving this. When an incident blows up, and gets a lot of attention, they address it. Otherwise, they leave the jet ski mafia alone to rake in millions in illegal income. A travesty at best, and co-conspirators at worst.

Why a "maximum liability" if covered by insurance?

Your current proposal would allow the "thieves" to charge 15000 baht EVERY hire time. Still a good little earner!

  • He let his insurance lapse so it's the tourists fault?. Amazing Thailand.

  • Ordering them to be shut down and actually shutting them down are 2 totally different things altogether.

Shut down shouts the headline - but only for one month - sigh sigh

One group of jetski scammers are alive and doing well on Pattaya beach.

A friend has observed 3 incidents during the last week involving the intimidation and heartless robbery of young foreign jetski renters on the beach opposite the Pattayaland area and the shop called Honest Gems.

All 3 incidents were staged in late evening and involved the same policeman turning up to "arrange" the deal.

The victims were young asians perhaps arab or indian and looked liked they were left penniless after the scam.

An undercover squad needs to set up there urgently with secret cameras-publicity is the only solution.

Excellent stuff - just goes to show what can be done if the will to do it is there.

Yes, excellent stuff......unheard before under the previous governments.

But with this government, things have changed and the law is taken seriously.

Even for 1 month, Living in Kata, shows the good intentions of the government......next time the scammers will be put in jail.

yes, a very good goverment of a military dictatorship fillings they pockets even worser and more than any legal goverment before and let good paid from all kind of mafia do what they like to do. looks like you don´t understand the meaning beetween a order to shot down this business or the order to close down the business by them self what means is voluntary.. therefore i guess you one of the yellow lovers, wich are the same breed of money suckers in thailand. and for them the military dictatorship rules.

What a complete pile of steaming crap.

The Jet Ski scam has prospered under all governments in Thailand for the last 10 years and now the military leaders (not dictators) have started to clamp down.

You must have a disadvantage when it comes to understanding Thai politics as obviously you were not here to see that the previous governments were too busy lining their pockets to bother with clamp downs on illegal activities (unless it suited their needs).

In future, if you are not sure about something, please feel free to ask instead of ranting on about subjects that you don't have a clue about.

There are plenty of posters on this board who have been here for a long time who would be willing to explain these matters to you.

NOBODY need a degree or anything else to understand the jet ski scam. Its people like you that dont understand it....its one of the most famous parts of Thailand.

About time for the Thai navy marines at Sattahip to take an interest in the jet-ski scams being supported by local officials and police. If the PM wants to encourage tourism it is now time for less talking and more action. Talking is good for happiness of Thai peoples but action is better for the economic benefits of tourism. coffee1.gif

How about a name of a "relevant person" at Sattahip naval base being called to help settle/stamp out these ongoing corrupt disputes? whistling.gif

That is simply what the official stated was the maximum allowable under the policy. It prevents the mafia pigs from even trying to export the 100 or 200k paydays they have been getting away with for years. There are very few truly reputable jet ski operators in Thailand. Shut them all down. Auction off all their equipment to benefit an orphanage.

You obviously don't know the meaning of the word.

It's a response to someone that says something cheekily rude, usually about something sexual.

Oh, how clever. coffee1.gif

It is great when you can run a criminal enterprise and have support from the town Council, the mayor, the police and the army.

I know - but I was using it in its broadest sense "You wish"........

It doesnt mean 'you wish'.. Is that what you interpreted bar girls saying that response as meaning ??

ทะลึ่ง is cheeky rude saucy usually sexually suggestive.

I am so sorry. wai2.gif Here...

"Shhhh" - a silly noise one makes when they wish you to be quiet: usually used in combination with a pointer finger before ones mouth; an onomatopoeia used both in speech and online to tell another party to be quiet

You see, I didn't realize I was using an obscure foreign word or expression, serving no particular purpose (except to exercise one's own vanity) and beyond the average reader's comprehension, thus needing definition...

You are a funny man. I got your point, and I liked it. Some are not blessed with equal degrees of humor. It was a subtle joke.

Amazing Thailand.

That's not all. The operator got his licence revoked..... for one month... what a joke !
